Arrow Alyeska!

This place just rocks from head to toe. I definitely recommend it to anyone in the Anchorage area who has not yet checked this sweet spot out.

I loved every bit of this mountain, from the awesome view to the deep powder. There's a place called Sitzmark! @ the bottom of the hill that usually has live music and some awesome chili-cheese fries, definitely grab a plate of those.

The above pic was taken on April 8th, 2012 which I think was leaning toward their last days open.

Even though I just came from there and have a CO pass, I will undoubtedly be heading back up to AK for at least a week or two this season just to go ride here!

I've read some other posts from AK-locals; if you guys scope this post, be sure to send me a shout so we can meet up and ride when I roll through!

Would love to go up there at some point. When do they usually open?

Just spoke w/ my buddy earlier who still lives up there. I believe he said 3 weeks til open, so that would be the week of the 25th. There's some other AK cats around here, hopefully they'll spot this thread and chime in w/ the scoop!

Alyeska

My buddy goes to school @ University of Anchorage said they are getting hit pretty good right now, looks like it should be some good early season riding! I'm heading up to AK on the 26th for some early season riding if anybody wants to join or just get hammered at Chair 5 afterwards! Cheers

Alyeska trip

Just got back from my first trip out to Alyeska. No real snow yet just some man made icy runs are open and no park but still had an absolute blast! Girdwood is a super chill town. Just be ready for some cold weather, most days were in the negatives but the fire outside the bar kept things nice and warm. Planning a trip back in the spring hopefully with some decent snow!

The whole state's had a really bad (to nonexistent) early season this year. I was hiking around up at Thompson Pass yesterday and we didn't even need snowshoes. We should have been riding for two months by now. The snow just started last night though, and is supposed to continue throughout this next week at least. I wouldn't personally spend a bunch of money to come up here in the next month or so (low snow plus really short days!). I'm going to Hawaii for two weeks, and I'm hoping it's killer by the time I get back. For anyone coming up from outside AK I'd pretty much always recommend February through April for more daylight, better weather, and a deeper snowpack.
