Default Met a ski legend in Banff

Spent Friday and Saturday at Sunshine Village in Banff. There wasn't much in the way of new snow but it was fun nevertheless. They opened up a couple more lifts. There was excellent snow cover for this time of the year and a few rocks that I kept finding thanks to a pitcher of Rickards White. The rocks were in the black diamond chute section below Angel Express. Rode the gondola down with a Canadian legend - Dave Irwin who was one of the Crazy Canucks who were giving the Europeans a bit of an ass kicking back in the 70's/80s. He won a world cup title in the 70s. He suffered a near fatal brain injury in 2001 when doing some boardercross as Sunshine. He was obviously effected by the multiple concussions he sustained from spectacular crashes over the years but was alive and full of energy. He answered my questions and was a hell of a nice guy. He was there with his wife who has been by his side since the accident in 2001. I have read a few stories now about his recovery and this women is an unsung hero. Unconditional love at its best. Dealing with the brain injured isn't easy. You should google his name and watch some documentaries. He has been featured on numerous Canadian docs over the last few years. He is an advocate for helmet use and often stops kids at the hill and tells his story. I asked him about his fall and if he wore helmets back in the 70s. He said they were a hell of alot better than the one I was Reading a few articles after the fact opened my eyes to traumatic brain injury. He heads a foundation for TBI education/research. In one of the vids he was referring to a helmet as a cranium condom
