Shames Mountain this AM. One cat track up the mountain, 3' plus of unpacked shit to bury yourself in everywhere else. Maybe 6" of fresh pow to top it all off.
Sound great right? Wrong, considering this is my 2nd time on a board (if you count the golf course a couple weeks back). Hiking up a blue run and strapping in on a cat track with a nice packed trail from all the skiers skinning up was awesome. No room to turn without hitting the deep stuff and too much speed for my comfort if I stayed on the track. It was basically bomb straight, panic, lean back, rag doll or bomb, veer off track, face plant (can't breath), buried to the waste, unstrap, wade back to cat track. ![]() Gonna hurt like a mutha tomorrow. Would have been nice had the bunny hill been groomed. Not sure if I'll make the trip again before opening day. Definately ready for some lessons. ![]()

Everyone falls on their first day. In fact, yours sounds a lot like a whole lot of people's too. At least now you have a feel for the snow and what it will be like to ride on it. That will help you with your lesson. Congrats on the effort, and hopefully you still had some fun.

Well the one thing I can think of from last year was on groomers I always had to tell myself to lean forward. All your turns are initiated by your front foot. Keep the weight forward and don't lean back. As you said its just fail and eat shit...... been there.

Hey Snowolf, thanks for the reply man. That all makes good sense.
I had a couple of obvious problems. 1. I think I was leaning too far back and loosing it that way. 2. I wasn't comfortable with picking up a lot of speed and so I avoided going higher into the steeper terrain that would be needed to keep moving in that much powder. 3. I was trying to turn like I would on a groomer (I think) and I was just like you said digging in and wiping that way too. Also, I pushed too hard for too long. Once I was tired I was eating shit way more than when I started. I should have given it up sooner. 3-4 hours of hiking and constantly digging myself out was exhausting. ![]() Thanks again, OD Quote:
