Hey all,
Did a search but came up empty, so please help if you are able. Heading to Keystone area end of Feb. and was curious about their cat (KAT: Keystone Adventure Tours) riding. Has anyone done it? If yes, what's your opinion in general and specifically the skill level required? Their site says expert (trees and deep snow) while another review said advanced intermediate. I looked at a vid on YouTube and didn't see anything I don't think I couldn't handle, but would like a first-hand account / opinion on what type of terrain and obstacles might be encountered. I wouldn't rate myself as expert, but perhaps more close to advance intermediate. Thanks! |

Intermediate terrain at best and not worth it in my opinion. Better off walking behind the cat to where they go and strapping in.

I hike Keystone. Some of the stuff I go to you can take Cat rides too. I would not take a cat ride from Outback to the North and South Bowls, the hike is not bad. Most of this will be open bowl riding. Most of the terrain dumps into trees. There are catwalks out that suck. Most of the tree riding in the back mountains is old growth and farther apart. There are easy tree escapes, but you should be comfortable in trees. You should be a rider with good control.
Also currently there is a low snowpack. I have not been hiking or riding trees at Keystone. Do your snow dances. I have done some tree riding earlier around Christmas and hit stumps. We have not gotten the snow yet to cover it up good. Some areas have many downed trees. |
