Stratten great on Sunday...more to come!
After getting about 4" of snow on Thursday and Friday, the groomers were out in force and smoothed out most of the mountain (it had rained and in the 50's earlier in the week). I had expected ice or dust/crust on Sunday, but it was one of the best days of riding all season.
Bright sunshine all day, unusual for Stratton. It was super cold, so the snow stayed dry and powdery. But was also so windy, they had to close the Gondola shortly after lunch. That was okay, because most people just went inside for the St. Patty's parties. That left most of the mountain relatively empty for the rest of the day, you just had to take the lift transfers to the top -- and be dressed warm. I did a couple runs under the closed Gondola, on perfect packed powder, seeing only a couple of other people the whole way down! You could totally bomb it...unreal! Same on virtually every trail, from Kidderbrook to Tamerack and Polar Bear/Bear Down, even the blues.
But here's the best part...it starts snowing again tonight, and mid/northern Vermont is expected to get anywhere from 10-30" of fresh! And it will stay cold until the weekend, so it won't freeze up!
So STAY HOME! Because I'll be there. I think I hear Stowe calling!
