April 2013, Nozawa Onsen

Went up to Nagano for what will be my last trip of the season.
All three days up there we had great spring conditions and clear skies.

Sometimes we get powder dumps in early April, but this year even March was very dry for snow and pretty warm.

The Snow was slushy and fairly mashed up but still pretty good at the top of the mountain.

Played around in the trees and in some natural half pipe areas as well as hitting the park a fair bit. I am mostly into freeride and powder but the last few years I have been getting more into freestyle and am trying to get into the park more to develop my skills.

Its so hot up there I was getting thirsty, nature has the solution.

Delicious ice cold water.

After the boarding nature also has the solution for those aching muscles.

100% natural and free hot spring.

After that I had some soba noodles, meant to take a picture, but I only ever remember that after I have finished eating.

Time to pack up my stuff and get ready for swimming/surfing and hiking.

I have also started doing Yoga to strengthen my core and get more flexibility to tweak out those grabs more next season.

This trip was a fantastic end to my season. Will be putting up a season edit video pretty soon.

You need to do some more research, go high at this time of year.

Nozawa is 1700 meters at the top and they still have over 2 meters of snow as a base although it is melting.

At the bottom its pretty much all gone although we still managed to board right to the bottom (just) while we were there.

Well, Ryuoo does have an upper section accessible by Gondola - that still supposedly had 185cm and all runs open... Thats what we were relying on. But thanks to this stupid "bakudan teikiatsu" extreme low pressure trough they expected high winds and decided to close the gondola. Winds didnt happen, but because of the announcement, hardly anybody turned up.

Will look at either Nozawa, Kagura or Gala for one more season ender trip

(well this year i intend to check out Gassan in June or so)
