They won't do anything to stop avalanches. They were likely placed there to help with erosion and stop the melt from wiping out the soil and having it end up downstream or something.

Yeah, we're a couple of decent storms away from the resorts being full blast. We're getting snow and then hitting like 60 degrees for a week. Not a great start, but still plenty of time.

That is super dumb. Solving a problem that did not really exist. Ski boots are not as comfortable, but it isn't so extreme that you'd need this.
