Do you really need make new people post 15 times before there allowed to send a PM, or especially reply to a PM?
I'm trying to PM people about buying and selling gear.
I think it encourages people to want to just do a bunch of dumb spam posts.
It may be annoying for someone real that he can't post links and PM at first, but it is thought to shy away spammers.
About a year ago, the site was infested by Korean (IIRC) spammers which created dozens of new accounts and posted dozens of threads with odd content n links on a daily basis... this has stopped after the admins have introduced the new rules for new accounts.
15 post is actually a very low bar...and u sir are a whiner...y don't u post something intelligent like your pussy...we want to see some hairy feline tricks :hairy:
I imagine if there was such a mythical thread, it would be called "Introduce Yourself" and it would be in the "Welcome New Riders and New Members" section of the forum!
But naw, this mythical creature can't possibly exist...
This is a forum, not Kijiji/Craigslist, participate in the forum if you want to use the classifieds. And I would suggest not buying gear from people with low post counts. That's how people get burned.
TLDR Place is fine, but there should be requirements for all newbies coming by going through mandatory eight thread read through and post. It would help cut down on the same three posts that always happen.
:blahblah::blahblah:
As pointed out there is an Introduce Yourself thread. There are also the other throw away post: Things I Hate Today/Things I love Today and the What are You Currently Listening To. If anything: I think the setup is great. If you really want be apart of the forum then you'll figure it out.
But, new people should have to do read certain posts and call it: Completing the Eight: It would consist of the following: Member Guidelines, The Introduce Yourself, Sedition's Equipment Guide, Glossary/Index, Things I Love Today, Things I Hate Today, Wired's Boot Fitting, and a Post within the users Regional Location Thread.
Just saying: considering that everyone who comes in makes a post and the first thing everyone does is say: you are wearing a boot way too large and XYZ. Also, i think there should be a glossary or index with all the terms that are used in the sport and forum. Some people don't know what WROD is or the difference between All Mountain, Park Rat, and Splitboard. Yes, I know there's Google but, think about how many come onto the board saying things like I'm Goofy but after two posts you see they are really Regular so everyone encourages that person for Switch. If everyone can get send to the same place (Wired's boot fitting), to the same videos (eg Wraith's technique video) then we can all be on the same page and speak the same language.
Sounds reasonable to me. As a relative newbie, I personally wouldn't have a problem with this. Some of those threads are pretty cool (especially Wraith's, that was an eyeopener!).
I lurked for a bit before posting to get a feel of the forum, and I still feel I've probably asked more questions than I should!
There is a LOT of stuff here, and the search function is pretty good.
Looking forward to when I can give some info back.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
