1. But whatever program you use, you need to run the scan with your computer in "safe mode" Some of the ick-ware will start up with your computer, and can look like a normal process which makes it difficult for anti-virus or anti-malware programs to catch and clean it. "Safe mode" means your computer has only the bare minimum processes running in the background.

Depending on your computer, you will either have "restart in safe mode" as an option in the shutdown/restart menu, or will need to hit one of the "F" keys during start-up (search for "start in safe mode" in your help section to find which one).

Once you do the scan and delete any problems you find, restart your computer normally.

2. And one should not only regularly clear their cache of "regular" cookies, but also clear cookies from the separate cache of Flash Player.

I am talking to all of posters in all of the forums, I want to see how wide spread this is and see if there may be some clues to help me piece this together.

And..if you get it here again, please give me the 6 suggestions I posted in my last post.

Some other suggestions from posters in other forums is:

This weekend I had to delete c drive and start over because a trojan that was giving out my financial information over the internet and the virus software couldn't seem to remove it.

Tuesday night I had some sort of pop up about malware show up. I clicked the button that said closed instead of the x on the windows box, the next thing I knew something was downloading on my computer tailing me I had all of this male ware, then AVG suddenly popped up and told me I had a trojan, this time it was able to remove the trojan.

Tonight I had a random pop up asking me to download a pdf file, I hit the x this time and it went away.

The last two events happened while I was on this website, i am not sure how I picked up the first Trojan. I didn't know there was a problem until my bank called me about the fraudulent activity on my credit card. I wish people could find ways to make an honest living....

I don't have any suggestions to give. It was easy to delete the c drive, but took for ever get everything reinstalled...

They are nice. My sister has a couple of them. Simple...everythings there built right in...
yeah, they are awesome.

and the best part is you can run windows XP or anything on it by installing an emulator or something of that sort.

with a mac the possibilities are endless, and you can use them to your advantage because you will never get a virus.

If you want it to stay that way, you should probably tell less people to buy a Mac. The only reason mac viruses aren't as widespread is because they have such a small share of the home computer market. As that grows, the OS becomes a bigger and bigger target.

Trust me, I could write a virus for your mac that would make you cry.

ok thanks, in my instance, I did indeed have a rogue trojan in my system. After days of exausted effort I found it.

I havent gotten it since. So does that mean the spyware is not here? No, but I lean towards that conclusion. Why? Many, many more people would have stepped forward over the last month and a half, imo. Not only here, but in the network.

So what should we do about this?

This is what I did last Thursday night to find my trojan.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide - MajorGeeks Support Forums

I did everything it said to do. After going into what windows you are using(I am still using xp}once I got to run malwarebytes scan, I found it. I think in my instance the rogue programs was in my registry, but could have been java based because I had my java uninstalled as requested. Also, I run both SAS and malwarebytes daily and neither one of them found it until java was uninstalled. I later installed the new version of Java.

I think the Rogue program hides itself as a real running program.

So try this...it takes time, but you may find it.

In the mean time, I want to know when you get the ad and how often. My instance it was only at MMA forum and I was getting it once a day.

Well, I don't really consider myself a novice when it comes to windows and using the internet. I am no expert either though. The other day when this thing pop up I hit cancel instead of the download button, well, guess what when you hit cancel that down loads on your pc. Fortunately AVG took care of the problem.

My system also has password that i have use when ever I boot up. base on the post above it sounds like there should be other password protection, I would be interested in knowing what needs to be done to make that happen, I am using windows xp.

To those of you who are concerned, a few suggestions: Run Windows Update and install all high priority updates. This make take several rounds before the website says there are no updates. If you think you may be infected with something, download HijackThis, do a scan and save the log file. Attach the log file to your post and I'll look it over.

I defiantly am carefull about what I click on on the internet. I have been using computers since middle school and internet since high school...it was called the information super highway back then lol....I am 33 now. Until recently I few problems.

BTW I just go the pop up again, the web address was a little different this time www4.millages.net, this time, same file name pdf.pdf

I only get this on this site, something is defiantly going on...unless there is something already on my computer that is triggered by something on this site....
