This guy Jamie Schectman has large plans to transform the idea and business platform for ski resorts.

He is thinking globaly and says "I want to have a family that's currently in Afghanistan come to one of our ski areas and see how we're running things and then go back to Afghanistan and start one of their own [ski areas] in collaboration with us. How's that for ambitious?"

He wants to make the ski industry a power source, literally.

Possible?

that was a great read. thanks for the link. I hope this guy is successful. sounds like he knows what he's doing and has a good plan. It's definitely a niche to fill.

I often think about how there are so many places on the map that could use ski resorts. so many places in russia and the middle east that have epic mountains that I would love to snowboard down some day.

First of all..does it even snow in Afgahnistan? Also i think a ski resort is the last thing they need. How can the citizens there afford ski gear when they cant even afford food?

hell yea it snows there. they have some of the highest and craziest mountains in the world

Like anywhere, not all citizens are dirt poor. Not only that, but international tourism would bring money into the region....money that does not involve the Opium trade that is....
