the ads and especially the pop-ups on this site have gotten much much worse this year.

i DO NOT want to be looking thru the 'New Posts' and get bombarded by Dodge fucking truck ads that pop up on my screen.

that shit is annoying as hell, but at least there is a 'x' to close the box. today i get an add for some dr. seuss shit and some other gay fucking thing, but this time its just audio coming at me - with no other windows up at all. no box on the browser to close, no new browser window popped up, just some stupid fucking ad yapping at me from the nether-regions of my cpu.

i'm getting pretty fucking sick of it.

causes the site to load slower because of all the 3rd party cookies and addresses that have to load.

ADMIN: STOP BEING SO FUCKING GREEDY - WE DON"T WANT ANY MORE FUCKING ADS

Shred,

Believe me, I am only trying to get this old fucker to last long enough until I save enough for a mac!. Fuck Windoze and PC`s!!!!!
Windows 7 has actually equalized things a lot with the Mac OS. They are now quite comparable in stability and security. My problem with Mac's are the walled garden approach. You buy a mac, you're stuck with that config. If you're needs change you're kind of stuck buying a whole new machine.

Beautiful machines. But as a someone who used to build machines and still can, I like the flexibility of PC's still. Mac's break too.

Ideally, I'd run both (actually I am)

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

My girlfriend would marry her mac if she could, and I will not give up my PC. That being said, I really enjoy myself when using her laptop, but for my personal taste I do not like being walled as stated above as I build all of my own computers. She on the other hand could care less and it does everything she could ever want, and looks nice and clean while doing it which is why she will always reach for her mac and why it is a better computer for her.

Chrome has never given me any problems. As said earlier the ads are geo targeted so maybe being in Canada no one wants to sell us shit?! I looked at Adblock but then you have to give up all your browsing data and website settings. Not that happy with that. (Puts tin foil hat on.)

Use Chrome. It's faster than Firefox and wayyyy faster than IE. With nearly anything new it takes a little time playing with it to get to know it, but it'd be hard to go back to either FF or IE. I also have the Adblock Plus add-on and don't get any ads or pop-ups I don't want. The numerous other Extensions are nice too.

My issues with Firefox started with the the upgrade to version 10.02. It seems that when I run FF, the hard drive is running constantly and the computer becomes very slow and jerky. I can barely watch vimeo and youtube in HD is near impossible. Since I got rid of it and am using IE, it is way faster, more stable and pages load faster. I dont know what they did to ff, but on an older machine running XP is sucks bad!
When I first started using FF years ago it seemed quicker. My IT guy said that over time it has gotten more cumbersome as people have altered it. I don't understand the deeper mechanisms of how it works but I definitely was more satisfied with it when it was young.

I just got a new one. I click on this page and am reading the post when all of a sudden this loud ass audio commercial comes on. There is no pop up, no way to stop it unless you refresh the page.

Adblock or not, browser choice or not, the fact is this shit has gotten too intrusive and needs to stop. Banner adds are fine and I have even clicked on a few that interested me but audio that you cannot control is bullshit. It is going way too far and we need to get this shit off of our site.
Read my post on the last page. i had the same thing and figured out where it was coming from.

Yep I got them today too on Chrome. Very annoying.

Something is wrong with Firefox.

I upgraded to version 10.02 and installed adblock and it crashed my computer as I posted. Same exact thing happened to my second PC when I upgraded to 10.02. In both cases, the computer would not boot to windows and from the DOS screen I had to select the option to "start windows from last known working configuration". On both systems this worked and I fully uninstalled firefox and both computers now run fas like they used to without glitches. I am running XP.

I used to love firefox, but this is a repeatable problem with 2 independent machines so I will not use firefox again. I am running Safari from Apple right now and seems pretty decent.
It's probably not firefox, maybe an error in your registry. If you want to save your old comp and have the security of a mac system, try something like Linux Mint. It's free, and virus free. Mac OS's are basically based off linux (well a form of it called freebsd.) Some forms of it require a good amount of command line knowledge, but Linux Mint is pretty nice and easy to use upon install.

Ubuntu's another good option. Although I find it funny when people talk about how bad windows is with Virus's. I've been primarly on windows since Win 3.1 and NEVER had a virus. I just don't click okay to every box that pops up, and I'm careful what I download and run. Windows is not virus prone, people are! lol

Also wolf, maybe try noscript instead of adblock? Noscript is a bit anoying at first (it blocks all Java and embedded objects in almost all sites) but as you start allowing things that you know are safe on sites you visit, it starts to become seamless. I haven't tried yescript but it basically works the oposite way. There's a blacklist of known pop-up, phishing kinda java and it blocks that by default but allows everything else. At the moment I prefer noscript.

Sounds like you have some hidden malware on your computer. You should google Malwarebytes and download it. It's free. Just scan your comp when you get it and it should remove the malware.

Anyway, moving on to the topic. I use Google Chrome with adblock and have yet to see any ads on here.
