Top 10 Snowboards 2006
From Brandon Arnold

This season's top snowboard picks offers a board for everyone. From backcountry kickers to wide open groomers and tight tree runs, there is a snowboard here that can handle it - and many of them can do it all. Don't forget to take into consideration the type of terrain you like to ride before buying a board. These boards range from just under $400 all the way up to $650. We have a seperate list of our favorite snowboards for under $350.

1) Burton UnInc Snowboard
Burton has let their freestyle masterminds come up with their own series of decks. Gigi Ruff has spec'd this 158cm twin-tip to perform on huge kickers, steep backcountry drops or random bonks. Burton's rad 2X stance technology gives the rider more usable options while using less inserts, this saves weight and gives the board its sweet natural flex. The high performance SuperFly II core is profiled with slightly less material between the bindings for on-command control and better butters.

2) Ride Business Snowboard
Ride is out to prove that you get what you pay for with their Business deck. This sick board doesn't hold back with an arsenal of technical components and refined performance. The super-fast Gallium infused base maintains speed for full throttle acceleration in all snow conditions and is nearly bullet proof for superior impact resistance. With the versatility of Capped tips and tails with sidewalls underfoot this Board means Business.

3) Rome Anthem Snowboard
All day, all night and all out is what the Anthem is all about. Built for the charging rider that eats, sleeps and lives snowboarding, the Anthem will have you singing its praises. This young company has been doing their homework on the hill; the result is a lightweight board with fast-riding sintered base and a wood core that is loaded with pop. The best thing about this deck is that you don't have to be a super pro to ride it you just have to love to ride.

4) Option Sansalone Snowboard
Great riders come up with boards that ride like racecars and let us push our limits. This year's Sansalone from Option is no exception with a power packed deck that lets the intermediate to advanced rider tear up steep slopes, deep powder and tight trees while providing a solid platform for landing big air. This all-mountain favorite comes in a bunch of lengths and widths to make sure that riders of many different sizes can let it rip on their favorite terrain.

5) Sapient Coulter Snowboard
This pro-model from Sapient combines their top of the line components and construction to make a solid stick for advanced to expert shredders. The ABS sidewalls smooth bumpy terrain and absorb impact from rails. Its dialed-in Transitional sidecut lets you rip powder at mach speed or control your flow through the park. Chris Coulter had one of his good friends supply the original artwork to make his signature deck as unique look as good as it rides.

6) Nitro SupraTeam LH Snowboard
Long-time Nitro pro Lucas Huffman is the "go to" guy when filmers and photographers need sick images to print. His signature Suprateam board plays the same role for riders that can bring it in the park or in the backcountry. A carbon and Dyneema reinforced wood core brings solid performance for eye-watering straight lines, mile-high ollies and on point control at any speed. Get this deck and you'll feel like you've joined Nitro's kick-butt team.

7) Forum Joni Malmi Snowboard
International superstar Joni Malmi was one of the original members of the Forum 8. His first pro model is well worth the wait. This deck is hungry for high speed pursuits over any terrain. Its transitional sidecut is predictable and handles well while riding switch or regular. The I-Lock system allows infinite stance options. A hard and fast Sintered 7500 base lets you put the pedal to the metal while devouring large jumps or wide-open powder fields - or large jumps in wide-open powder fields.

8) Venue Onyx Snowboard
From the makers of NorthWave boots and Drake bindings comes the hot new Venue Onyx. These guys have been producing sweet boots and bindings for long enough to learn everything they need to know about putting together high performance snowboards too. The Onyx busts out of the gates with a sintered base, carbon fiber-reinforced wood core and a do-everything directional shape. This is one deck that is made for the rider that goes off on any terrain.

9) Atomic Alibi Snowboard
The Atomic Alibi is made for park rats but is packed with performance features that lets you rip all over the mountain. Dialed-in construction including Inter-Carbon inlays, a CNC milled wood core and super-sick Twin Progressive sidecut that can ride better switch than most boards can ride regular. The Alibi's high tech is combined with a snappy flex that can win contests or let you beat your bros at a game of "SKATE", I mean "SHRED," at the local terrain park.

10) Endeavor Live Snowboard
Endeavor puts their high-class spin on this classic freestyle deck. Made with park riders in mind, the Live series come in short, wide models so you can duck your stance, sag you pants and get your jib on. It is also made in normal width for those that want a fun board but don't need the extra width. I have to admit the graphics on this board are unreal and are almost as technical as the riding you'll be able to do on this sick stick.
