Thirty-Two Lashed ('08): a newbie's review

Well,
I went and done broke the cardinal rule of buying snowboarding equipment: "*Always* try-on boots before you buy!"

Believe me, I had not set out to break this rule, disregarding the learned advice of my fellow, much more experienced peers.
I did venture to my one local ski shop, and tried on about 10 different pairs they had - all limited to the brands: Burton, Vans, Rome, and K2.
The only ones of the lot I felt good in were a few K2's. There were a few Burtons that felt nice, but were much too soft for the riding I would be doing (all-mountain, groomers, freeride...) The Vans were flat out "pinchy" on the tops of my high-arched feet. The K2's would have been fine, but I didn't want to pay list, and they had no '09's left.

So, I took a chance.

I did my homework, carefully measured and determined my mondo point size,
and translated that to a snowboard boot size.
I settled upon a very lightly used pair of Thirty-Two 'Lashed' on e**Y.
For a very nice price ($55 shipped).
Research and comments here about this boot had lead me to this decision,
and I'll thank you all for that, now.
(almost got the TM-1's, but decided I didn't want to go too stiff in a boot...)

Compared to anything else I've had on, these boots are by far the most comfortable.
And I'd say that they are pretty darn close to being true to mondo sizing,
as my careful calculations have resulted in a fit for length that lets my toes just clear the front of the boot,
with knees bent and boot flexed.

I do see now how this boot might not work for some, as the toe box is quite roomy,
as some here have also described.
But whatever "play" there is at the front,
all gets ratcheted down quite firmly from the back 1/2 of the foot out through the heel and ankle.

Feels good!

Time will only tell how durable these boots are (another criticism of 32's that Ive read multiple times..);
but I intend to have a blast with these figuring that out!

Buying boots without trying them on is risky, but it sounds like it worked out for you. If it makes you feel any better, I have about 40 days on my 32's and while they've been broken in, they aren't showing any noticible signs of wear.
