I finally got myself helmet. Last years Smith Vantage for $120.
First thing I noticed is how light it is. You genuinely forget you are wearing it until you see yourself in a mirror.
Its very comfy too and has plenty of padding. I was hiking a little and when I was hot I would just flip open the vents which is easy and can be done without taking the helmet off. With the vents fully open its cooler than wearing a wooly hat (beanie if you insist). With the vents closed its warmer than a wooly hat and kept me nice and toasty.
It was snowing all day and it kept me dry too.
Didn't have any collisions or falls so can't say much about its protective capabilities, but it feels solid.
To be honest I didn't bother wearing it on the last two days of my trip not because it was heavy or uncomfortable, but I just prefer the feel of a wooly hat and somehow feel it allows me to be more aware of my surroundings. Also I was not going off piste and you can see from my trip report there was hardly anyone on the mountain.
Seriously I was the only one on many of the runs I did.
I will be wearing it when learning new tricks and on busier days, and for some of my side country riding.
All in all a quality helmet IMO.
