Default Heel edge grab, binding problem

So I have been having this major issue with a grab, and because I am fairly intermediate I do this grab a lot. It is back hand to the heel edge on the outer part of the back binding, whatever that grab is called. Either way 75% of the time when I pull my hand back up I unlatch that rear binding, it is really frustrating. I ride Rome 390s. Is this a binding issue or do I have teach myself to extend my arm out when I pull back from rear grabs, on top of all the other stuff going on in the air...Starting to feel like a golf swing LOL.

It's definitely not a binding issue.

Yeah I wasn't sure if anybody else did this on other bindings or what. So you think it obvious I need to pull my hand away at a different angle?

Pretty much. It just means you need more control of your body to not simply let go of the board, but to move your hand in the proper direction as well. I have this issue since I'm an un-athletic ogre, and on the rare occasion I can get my hand down to my board to grab, when I let go I sometimes slap my ankle strap and rip it off.

What gets me is how the ratchet NEVER seems to stick in that scenario... but when I get to the bottom of the hill, I can't even get my board off...

Try doing a different grab until you have more confidence in the air and more awareness. Its not the binding

I think OP is referring to tailfish, not tindy. Tindy is rear hand on toeside, outside rear binding no?
