Default I can finally spin...sorta.

I've been wanting to figure out 360s since the start of last season. Today, I finally hit some frontside 360s off a small jump (around 4' tall). I was able to land a few well and was happy that I was looking back up the hill and didn't over rotate. It was a big moment for me. I actually did some switch frontside 360s too. They were more like 330s but I was able to ride them out

I'm pretty stoked....I hope to get comfortable enough to take them to bigger jumps pretty soon.

Never thought I would be learning 360s at 44 years old. Next up, boardslides

Nice! I didn't care much at first but since your an old man like me I'm gonna cheer for ya. (of course you have 8 years on me yet but I feel like I'm in the same club haha). Good luck with boardslides, super fun when you get them locked in.

"Old" guys unite!

I'm hoping to join that club this season! I have done FS and BS 180s, but the next 180 degrees seems much more daunting! I also fell doing a boardslide last weekend (didn't adjust for the kink) and throught I broke my tailbone. I didn't, but that area is sure sore. I finally conceded that 40 year olds playing these games should wear some padded shorts and wrist guards.

Quick question, can you do a standing 360 from the floor? I was trying that this morning after watching a Snowboard Addiction vid and I'm not even coming that close.

Ha. My usual lunch includes a giant margarita, ibuprofen and aceto-whatever.

Gives me pain relief AND Dutch courage for the arvo sesh. Believe me, you don't need to be an old fella to need it. Mind you I'm 30 this year so I'm well on my way, 15-20 odd years of rugby has made this body the equivalent of a 90 year old.

Yes you can. The spin progression to a 360 is relatively straight forward. Start with spinning 180's on snow and keep doing that until you're ready to rotate in the air. After that, do the 180's in air. Once you're comfortable with in air 180's, the next step would be to rotate 180 in air, then complete the rest of the 360 flat ground. So 180 in air, flat 180. After that, try the 360 in air. A few points the evaluator taught was to pick an anchor point that kept your eyes up, and to rotate from the hips, not the shoulders.

Do you have to do a successful 360 to join? I've done lots of 270's, 335's, and two 360 to face-plants.

To answer your question, it's more a matter of skill than brute strength. I was practicing standing 360s in the gym a couple years ago (without a board or anything) and if I jumped hard enough to complete the spin, I'd cork. After taking tramp lessons and getting the feel for leading the spin with my head (and not dipping my shoulder) I can do the spins quite easily. I'd be happy to try it on the snow with my board on as well, AS SOON AS WE GET SOME FUCKING SNOW!!!!
