I got to ride perfectly groomed groomers all day . Most of the time the grooming at the little hill is shit. But today, perhaps because of the circus coming to town, or they found a groomer that knew how to groom or becasue the snow was the right temp and dryness. They were like hollywood groomers...so smooth, so even, not a seam...in my merger 11 years of riding at the hill have never seen such groomers....frickin unreal. The snow was on the harder side, but could get an edge to carve, they were fast and there were hardly any folks...on many laps it was just today's riding bud a 20 yr old shredmaster from Hood and myself...top to bottom.
On another note...any of you racing in the LBS...fricking good luck....its a scary, crap your pants and bruise your arse course...daughter was helping setting it up and went through it a couple times and between the course layout and the current snow and temps...its trecherous.

We all love to rave about the pow and we should, but for so many of us it is too few and far between. The vast majority of our time is spent on "groomed" hills and yes, there is something to be said about a grooming crew that gets it right.
There is not much they can do about the temperature of the air and snow, but when they get it right, when it is seamless across the entire trail, when there is no ice to fear, no death cookies and you can simply let it rip, especially if you are there for first tracks, then I think it in its' own way, perfect corduroy is as much fun as a 12 inch pow day.
Don't be shy about letting management know when they get the grooming right. We all love to hear about how good we are and the guys working late into the night are not any different. It's like giving the greenskeeper feedback at the golf course. ( and no, I don't play golf, hate the game actually, but my son loves it and he doesn't ride... go figure? ) You would be surprised how far a few words of praise go.
magic carpet ride..probably 3rd on my list of fav conditions
lbs weekend, unless you are racing is not the time to be at Baker imo, last year it was fun but i didn't hit a single good spot til i went up hemisperes, rest of the mountain was absolutely fuct (but fun, haha)
Been at Stowe the last two days, with two more to go. I'm like a kid on Chriatmas morning waiting for the lifts to open to beautifully corduroy'd groomers. I think I have a serious man-crush on those drivers!
Man... that's... uhm... don't find words that wouldn't sound stupid.
I'll stop complaining about conditions in my area and be thankful for what we've got! There's little snow, yes, but still the mountain's steep and has 4000ft vert of every night freshly groomed runs. One gets spoiled easily
