Q- on traveling with board

Flying out next week to the West Coast and will be my first time taking the boards. Can't deal with rentals this year.

That said I have a board bag from a few years ago that I have never used. Any tips to keep my boards from getting hammered in transit? Also for those that do this often is it best to remove the bindings or is it cool to just leave them be and perhaps stuff a few t-shirts and what not in there as well for extra padding?

I take the bindings off, put the boots in them and lay them on their side in the board bag stuffed with some of my clothes between the bindings and board so I don't get any scratches. It's worked quite a few times for me. That way you don't take up room in your actual luggage with your boots and whatnot.

baggage handlers at airports are usually more gentle with luggage than people think. my mom actually does it. which is awesome because i get to fly for free. if your bag is padded you have nothing to worry about. i stuff all my snowboarding stuff in my bag, and maybe a little bit of extra stuff too. they won't look through your bag, they know there's a snowboard in there. i just fold down my highbacks on my bindings.
