Lift ticket checks?

So, I went to a smaller mountain on the east coast, it was my first time snowboarding on the east coast in a LONG time, as I used to live out in Washington.

One thing I noticed, is NOBODY ever asked me for my lift ticket. Not a single person, all day...is that common on the east coast?

out in washington a few of the places (Crystal, White pass) are going to a RFID system, and the ones that still use old fashion tickets checked every time, so the fact that i never got asked, even once, made me confused...?:icon_scratch:

No. Most resorts scan lift ticks every run or check every run.

FYI - Most states with ski resorts have laws on the books making it a crime to forge lift tickets etc.

Ive been to the same mountain to where sometimes they ask, sometimes they dont. Oddly, one day was when it was super slow and i was like 1 of 20 people on the mountain, they scanned each time the guy was even keeping track for some reason, he musta been bored. When it was packed, they didnt scan nor check. So its random, on when and how often the check.

They scan at the places I ride on the east coast. Sometimes I get waved through later on in the day on slow midweek days.

At my local hill (Blue Mountain, Ontario) they still use the paper+wire tickets (or plastic cards if you have a season pass). They check only visually. Most of the time you don't even notice them looking, but every once in a while they pull someone out from the line because the ticket is not valid (wrong date or a day-only ticket at night). I've seen that happen maybe 3-4 times in my 3 years going there. While I obviously don't know how many people abuse their relatively lax procedures, I suspect it's not many because they offer very good prices on season passes and I do see lots of people having passes instead of single day tickets.

In Tremblant they scan the barcode every single time you line up for the lift. Annoyed the hell out of me.

in most PA Hills they use the wire and tag, with some going to rfid. Rarely if at all have I ever been asked to show other side of tag

Mid week, low traffic type days, I think they assume most people are season pass holders or adults who probably paid. They just don't give enough of a shit. Weekends are when the no good sneaky teenagers start try to steal their services. Brighton used to be visual checks on stickers and wickets until this season when they updated to the RFID cattle gates. One the reasons I decided not to support them with my money this year. Its so sad, they are mechanizing lefties and putting the poor guys out of work. Solidarity!

You guys don't have gates / turnstiles at all hills then...???

Everything over here is scanned for the turnstile, on every trip of every lift...

Otherwise no one would bother paying...!!!

Season tickets have photos on, and the photos display on the lift operators monitor so they can see if it is you using it or not... I know that it subjective as you cover up when you ski/board, but they soon get to know who is who, and definitely pull passes for misuse...

I've found on slower days they check and packed days not as much. Which is a bit confusing...I get they want to keep the lines moving on busy days but would imagine there are a few sneaking through unpaid. On such days that could equate to a lot of (lost) revenue.

Where I have a season pass, the lifties and I recognize each other (pass is covered by my jacket). Those I don't recognize sometimes don't ask, which I find odd. However, most who ask say they'll "remember" going forward.

Only one of the local hills I ride has the gate scan system; the majority are still running the sticker ticket/zip tie for dailys. Season passes are cards.
