so i was at sunrise in az today with my little brother, finishing up a good day of riding. i was spending a long weekend in pinetop with my family because it is the one year anv of my cousins death up near flagstaff. so basically family has been really important to me lately, and i have become more protective. anyway, i beat my brother down the mtn on our last run and unstrapped. about five seconds after he pulled up, he pointed and yelled "fight!" these two douche bags were trying to swing at each other right next to the lift line. except they didnt even know how to swing so they just kind of grabbed each other. they were grabbing each other within a few feet of several small kids and families. as cheesy as it might sound, seeing that happen so close to those families made me think of my own, and my brother encouraged me to go break it up. now those of you who know me on this forum may know that i am a offensive lineman in college so i am pretty decently sized. i dont normally mind fighting. i mean ok thats the way some people settle stuff, guys duke it out and its over, but at best, there is a time and place for it, and the lift line near families is certainly not it. so i dropped my board and ran at the guys and plowed them over with a hit stick, landing on top of both of them. i started prying them apart, and my brother came in to finish the job. then one of the d bags little buddies tried to fight me for breaking it up lol. i was like "wtf are you serious." i broke it up, because first off, they are endangering innocent people, and second, what could have possibly happened in the lift line that would cause a legit reason to fight? so i stood up and when he saw that i had him by a full foot, he backed off. my brother and i grabbed our stuff and bailed before anyone official got there. bottom line is, if you are gonna fight, cool, but do it in a place where you arent putting small children and families in any kind of danger. and for christ sake dont do it at a ski resort. anyone think i was wrong here?

i agree with you guys, but simply because of my size and strength and speed that football has given me, i dont really lose fights (promise im not trying to have an ego or anything, but i mean it does add to the whole confidence factor). and i do have a very level head, i dont let my adrenaline get the best of me. i mean do what you want in the parking lot, hell ill come and watch, but dont do it around kids and stuff

Lift lines are where fights are going to happen most. I come pretty close to knocking out someone almost every weekend. There are a lot of packs of riders (and skiers) at my local hill that like to stick together so they'll cut people to try and get closer chairs, and if they're cutting people in front of me then I'll always say something. Some of them get fresh sometimes and I've had to get in a few peoples face but it's never escalated to throwing punches, but I'm sure someday it will. I'm actually looking forward to it because with all the retards on the hill these days I get pretty aggrivated by noontime and won't mind taking it all out on some asshole.
And as far as kids and families being around, let it be a lesson to them that if you don't know snow resort etiquette then it cold result in a beat down. Snowboarding needs to subscribe to the same vigilante culture surfing has. There is only a small amount of terrain we have to ride so its about cleaning up our turf and enforcing respect. I'm not saying just go beat people up. I'll let them know how they're being an asshole and that's usually the end of it. |

I decked a guy in the lift line once because he was purposely knocking my board, I told him to fucking stop that shit but he persisted, laughing while doing it. It was some middle aged, socially inept asian man. I unstrapped threw down my gloves and gave the guy a good jab to the face. He didn't think it was so funny after that. Ski Patrol were pretty choked over it but other people in line and the lifties backed me up, saying the man was instigating it.
Another time I got into a fight was because this group of skiiers hit the wedge we built in a gladed area of the mountain that was out of bounds. It was too soft and we were still working on it, these skiiers roll up and decide to hit it. The hike back up and say "Cool jump, bro's" The old rule says that if you didn't build it you don't have the right to hit it. We got into a fight, the 4 of us and the three of them, they lost that fight thats for sure. Nothing feels more manly then defending your shit against douchebags |
