Default Resort closed early yesterday

So i went up to Mountain Creek in Jersey yesterday since I had some tickets to use before the end of the season. Weather was crap with steady rain but the place was empty. Snow on 75% of the "expert" trails was pretty good actually, with some ice and slush mixed in. They wound up closing around 6:45 instead of 9. Now I get closing for high winds or lightning, but that wasn't the case. Two separate employees said they were closing because it was empty. Economically I get it, customer service wise it blows. I manged to cram in 10K+ in a couple of hours so for me it was better than not going even if I was soaked: got turns, practiced some park stuff. My question for the board is: has this ever happened to you? Seems like a sketchy business practice to advertise hours and then not keep them.

Yes and no, midweek day and night i've had great times, do not even think about it on the weekends, oh and bring a lock. Biggest draw for me is I can be there in an hour from work and home in 1.5 and if the choice is riding vs not riding, well I know how I vote.

The opposite of this is a hill in BC, Mt Baldy that has in the past kept the chairs running later than normal because it was a 'nice day'.

Unfortunately they struggled financially and I don't think that they opened this year.

I rather drive the extra hour to go to windham, hunter, or belle than to give my money to creek.

Yes, it's closer to Nyc but trails suck. The vibe and people just suck. It really sucks as they close early because it was dead. I would go and ask for a refund or at least partial refund since you weren't able to ride.

I'm starting to think you don't enjoy the whole experience at MC, am I right?

Rode Plattekill this year for the first time, a little past Bellayre, not as big as Windham or Hunter. Way better vibe, it's not a "resort", people were super laid back, beer was cheap and it was empty. Definitely my Catskills choice.

Never had it close early, but have had days randomly in the middle of the week where they do not open. Never went to Mountain Creek, but various Poconos areas in PA. (Blue, Bear Creek, etc.).

Unlike out west, the resorts out here just don't get much volume in the weekdays. Hence, the discounts, unlike out west. Most of the customers in the east are locals, not tourists on a week vacation.

However, this generally happens really early or really late in the season, mostly to save whatever is left of the snowpack.

I think most mountains will have a fine print somewhere stating the limitations to posted hours, possibilities of refunds and so on.

The one I ride most often (Ontario's Blue Mountain) reserves the right to close up at any point for any reason they want, though I have not heard of them closing entirely due to conditions unrelated to weather. Currently, due to low volume of riders midweek they only run 3 of their 5 high speed chairs, but I suppose a smaller mountain might not have this kind of flexibility to scale down instead of closing completely.

For refunds, when I got tickets one time while it was raining, I was told by the cashier that I can get a full refund within 30 minutes if I don't like the conditions. Did not see that posted in writing anywhere, though.
