Default Proud Daddy

I took up snowboarding with my 7 year old daughter this year ... we have been going every weekend. She has been very observant over all the happenings that going on when all the kids ride park. She decided today was the day she was going to start learning ... she did really well on the rails. Of course she fell a ton of times ... got frustrated when she could not get her self and board lined up with the proper amount of speed.

But I thought I would share ... a 7 year old girl only out a handful times (admittedly with a number of lessons). Most proud of her to just step up and do it - not get scared or over think it. Gotta love the form - knees bent, controlled slide

Forgive the bad quality ... it was like a blizzard in the Northeast.

Wow, I know you said it was bad quality, but I have to be honest with you here. That looks amazing. It's like a painting or something. VERY cool.

Anyways, I also want to have a daughter and I really hope she wants to snowboard. I know I would have loved to have it as an option when I was a kid. Sounds like you guys had a blast.

you could have yourself the female shaun white on your hands. Keep her at it, its haard to get young kids to stay eager on things when their falling all the time, great to see that your daughter isn't put off by falling.

yeah pic does look nice.

My niece is like 9 and she started boarding this year, but she's lazy and never wants to wake up early to go.

She really wanted to wear a bandana over her nose and mouth like so many others do - so I got her one. Funny you mention Shaun White - he is the reason this all started. I was fortunate enough to meet him at "The Moon Club" in Vegas when I was in town on business. We both had bottle service tables next to each other at that club and I was joking with him on and off through out the night (really nice kid) -- I did not know much of him at that time but he seemed to have a lot of buzz around him. The guy I was with was a snowboarder -- I noticed he got real excited when he came to our table for a drink.

A couple weeks later my daughter was walking by a sign in Target Store with him on it .... she says:

"He is cool..."

I asked ... do you know who he is or what he does ... she says "No" -- so I told her I hung with him for a small amount of time in Vegas.

So I explained that he was a skateboarder and snowboarder. Then something really cool happened:

"Daddy - when can we go snowboarding like Shaun?"

8 weeks later - she we are in a blizzard and she says

"I think I want to try the jib" and she points over to the park....

So I get real nervous and immediately launch into - okay, first we need to do ... then we should focus on ....

I made a mistake though ... I should have taken her over to the box rail ... showed her it up close watched some people do it. Instead, I let her go down the hill and slide all the way to the end and then ... wham on her butt.

I think that is awesome!! I've got a one year old at home and I cannot wait to take her riding with me. It's great to get kids outdoors and keep them active and snowboarding is an awesome way for you to bond with her. It'll be something she'll wanna do with ya well into her teen years. I know I would have loved to go with my pop. My husband is a snowmobiler and I know he's also looking forward to the day he can take our little one up to the peak! There's nothing like a daddy's girl spending the day making her daddy proud and enjoying every minute of it. Tell her to keep her chin up, she'll get the rails down. Just the fact that she's willing to give 'em a try speaks volumes! She's gonna be riding like shaun in no time

Great kid stoke!

We honestly need a little more of that on the forum. Thanks for sharing.
