What was your first time like?

I went snowboarding for the first time in my life tonight. I just moved to Anchorage, Alaska from Oklahoma and arrived here a little over a week ago. I bought all of the gear, Salomon board, and everything else I need. I went out to a local ski slope tonight. I started on the bunny hill. The lift on the bunny hill was this thing you have to hold on to and ride your board to get to the top. I managed to hang on all the way to the top. I strapped my other foot in and rode all the way to the bottom. Piece of cake! Or so I thought. So, I figured I'd head over to the big hill. I rode the lift to the top. It was like a 5 or 6 minute ride. Awesome! I've never been anywhere like this. Anyways, I strapped in at the top, stood up and started headed down. Things got out of hand REAL quick. In a matter of seconds, I was hauling ass. The wind was roaring in my ears, tears were freezing on my face, etc. Next thing I know, I'm face planted on the ground looking at the sky, ground, sky, ground, sky etc. It's amazing how many times you can flip and tumble when you have a board strapped to your feet. I must have fallen over 100 times today. It's pretty rough on a 30 year old guy. I wish I could have taken this up when I was a teenager. Still, I had a blast! I am totally hooked. I didn't take any lessons, but I found lots and lots of people willing to answer questions and offer advice. Even little kids that would check on me after a spectacular wipe out. By the end of the night, I had the basics down. I can stop, turn, and get on and off the lift without looking like an idiot. Good times! I doubt I'll be back out there tomorrow. I probably won't be able to get out of bed either. But I'll hit it again next weekend. Anyways, what was your first time like?

first time I went was painful, I had a board I picked up from a rummage sale, GNU CHB 160 and a pair of Ride LX's as well as a late 90's Rowley XLT lookin vans Hi-Standards

well it was midwest riding, so nothing spectacular, all ice. I fell alot, I had bruises but after that trip and a weekend up in the UP (michigan) I had the basics down, so after that it was all about getting back and keeping my groove, its two years later and today I was doing front nose slides with a 270 off, stale 3's on a 20ft table and thinking about going for an underflip tomorrow, well see about that one though

I was jumping my first day, but....

I skated for years and was briefly sponsored by a local shop... I also skied... one day some of my friends said, "dude, you rip on a skateboard, you need to try riding with us."

And so it was... with their insight, I figured out how to use my edges and gained some idea of control the very first day.

And I know what you mean about the dirty 30s.

my buddy started snowboarding so i abandon my skiis and decided to try snowboarding one day.

it was a rental board. I learn the basics from my buddy but i was still falling a lot.
I remember going down the greens and i kept going down on one direction which i eventually have to butt plant it before my board runs onto the tar road.

but yea...it was a lot of pain, a lot of agony and i was pretty pissed at the end of the day.
The second time out there snowboarding is when i really got hooked.

Hahaha nice

My first time out I did pretty good I got off the lift strapped in and went straight down no problem the next time out not so good, see no one told me that riding flat was a no no so I couldnt figure out why this time when i went down my tail kept fish tailing and i was eating shit more and more....

So I asked my best friend Google and he told me that Im not suppose to be riding flat i need to me on edge. So then i figured out the reason i wasnt falling the first time was because there was alot of people in the way so with out even knowing it was hellside turning around them, but the second time i went night boarding and there wasnt that many people.

The first time i went boarding.. i was on a rental (the board was too stiff & boots didn't fit snug).
Paid for a group lesson (it was only me & my 2 friends).. i'm a guy & they're girls.
The instructor kept trying to hit on my 2 friends & totally ignored me after showing me what heelside & toeside turning looked like.. he didn't teach me how to stop (i would say that learning how to stop is an important lesson)
So i decided to leave the group lesson & skip the bunny hill & decided to try a green run for the first time..
I probably butt & face planted a total of 100 times too.. LOL
All in all i had a great time

My first time out on a snowboard wasn't bad. I went to the mountain to escape dealing with 2 4yr old kids that were in the house I was staying at. They drove me up to the mountain and said "have fun, we'll pick you up in 6 hours". I went to rentals, they set me up with a 151 board (way too big, I ride a 146 now) and soaking wet boots. The lesson was pretty much pointless, all I learned was that you have to lean on heels to turn left, toes to go right. Also, I was taught to fall down on one asscheek at a time. Nothing about staying on edge, breaking only heelside -- all in all it was a pretty crappy lesson. After I finished, went straight up on the green run and started practicing. Fell over a zillion and a half times -- knees sore, ass sore, legs burning. Next day, I couldn't walk. Fast forward a year later -- my ass is still sore, my knees still bruise, and my legs still burn. But I love it!

Government - If you think the problems they created are bad, just wait until you see their solutions.
