season year Which yr do u use???

Ok being I've only been into snowboarding for 5 yrs I'm still confused on this.

What yr do you use in describing your riding season.
IE: this will be the 14/15 season. Do I refer to this as the winter of 2014 riding season?
I started riding during the 2010/2011 season does that mean I started snowboarding in 2010.
Same with this years gear is it model 2014 or 2015?
All the same princicple

I know this is kinda silly but I don't know so just looking for clarification. What else is there to do in the off season then increase my knowledge in the sport :signlol:

This season will be the 14/15 season. If you started in the 10/11 season, then yes, you started in 2010. Unless you started in like February or something, then you it would be 2011. As for the gear, it's all 2015 this season. Think of gear like new cars. Always a year ahead.

Oh yeah!? Well, my mom says I'm cool!

That kinds of makes sense, but it was the same season as the 11 season, so if you thought of it more along the lines of you did 11,12,13 and 14, you have done 4 seasons and this will be your 5th otherwise if you started in 10 this could be your 6th season and physiologically it is one more year than you have actually done...

That is how i look at it, and justify why i am not better than i am... Haha

Kinda silly but the whole reason for this was I was trying to figure out which "annual" Orphaned Dad's weekend this years will be, based on when we started riding. We started this tradition our 2nd season riding so that said. This will be my 5th season riding and the 4th annual Orphaned Dad's weekend this year

One of my all time fav photo's and great memory of our 1st trip. My oldest taco'ing on a flat-up-flat box. No clue how I happened to be ready to snap this pic and the timing was perfect. No injuries just me and my other son having loud boisterous laughter.....

I'm also thinking of getting some shirts or just use this one which I still need to buy

OK. I usually refer to the past or upcoming season using the two calendar year form. Last year's being the 2013/'14 season,.. This upcoming season being the '14/'15 season.

I started riding last weekend of Jan. 2011. (…rode every possible day I could and made 4-5, maybe even 6 weekend trips up north until they closed mid April that first season!) So by my count, I have 3.5 years/seasons riding.

You're only Young Once,.. but you can be Immature FOREVER!

Feb/Apr 2011. (27) days!
2011/12 (38) days!
2012/13 (48) days!
2013/14 (44) days!
2014/15 (00)

2016/17 (0) days!

Hmm... it's easy for recent seasons: the '13/'14 season was simply last year. But if it's long ago, I refer to a season to the year the season began: the '93/'94 season was in '93, so 20y ago cos the '14 season hasn't begun yet . In Dec, it would be 21y ago. In theory.

To count seasons may be nice... and I understand your stoke to count them, Slyder.

But for other circumstances, I'd wish, ppl would add the number of days, cos seasons are not informative to gauge experience, e.g. when ppl. post something as "I ride 3y, what board should I get". Uhm, dunno, 3y can mean everything from 3 days beginner up to advanced... E.g. by counting the seasons, I'm riding 20 seasons. So what? Sounds good, but doesn't mean much. I'm sure Argo had more days riding (=progress) in 3 seasons than I had in those 20 .

I really thought quicksand was going to be a much bigger issue in my life when I was little

Neni I see your point but the yr part contradicts others. I do like the car analogy, it starts this year but is actually next years model. So with that all said sounds more like personal preference.

Counting season days: another good point but varies greatly region to region. Many of you boys have days in the hundreds. Here in the midwest our season can be 100 days then hills shut down. Where the mountain guys can keep riding.
I lost count around 30+ days and for here, I feel this is a very solid season. Especially for me my days are usually 8+ on the hill. I squeeze in, on average 3 days a week. Again average, family and work sometimes 1 sometimes 6.
So again depending on your physical location. I think season days on the hill can be misleading as well. The more southern guys to like, StLois NC, I'm sure there season may even be a little shorter as they get more warm spells, not positive.

I do understand your point a season doesn't qualify someone as a good or competent rider. Videos do
