so after sucessfully not getting hurt boarding through my entire hockey season i went out for some spring riding with a couple of friends at wachusett yesterday. We spent the entire morning in the park, where i am still a beginner, and i felt really solid. I was landing jumps clean for the first time, and doing solid on some rails as well. So before lunch we decide to do a few speed runs down the mountain. Now this is the aspect of riding where i feel really comfortable. Stuff in the park scares me, but i have no second thoughts about going lightspeed. First run down i beat all my friends and feel really solid. Snow was a bit lumpy but i wasnt fazed. Second ride down dfferent trail was a bit icy at the top but then got more slushy. I ended up lagging a bit behind my friends and in my eagerness to catch up i really let loose. There is a section at the end of the trail where it gets a bit steeper, just enough so you cant really see whats ahead of you. I come charging over this in mid-heelside turn and voila, there is a nice lump of snow with a hunk of ice in it that the nose of my board goes straight into. Catch my front edge, fly forward, and land on my face. I was wearing a helmet, but i got some snowburn/bruises on my face. I figure thats the worst of it and im fine, so i ride down.
When i got to the bottom, i realize that my knee hurt. It wasnt too painful, felt more like i needed to crack it but couldnt. I figure it will go away so i catch the lift back up with my friends. Get to the top and go to turn heelside off the lift and get a sudden jolt of pain in my knee. I strap in and start to go and realize i cant turn heelside without a lot of pain. Toeside is fine. Get to the bottom quite slowly and go in for lunch, hoping it will go away. It didnt when i tried to ride again after lunch. I can bend my knee fine and without pain, but as soon as i strighten it past a certain point with weight on it i get shooting pain and it basically gives. I was told this is acl pain Hoped it would go away by this morning but no luck. I realized that without weigh on it i physically cannot fully strighten my leg. It doesnt hurt when i try i just cant do it. I can walk with a limp pain-free keeping my hurt knee bent. Im gonna go to the doctors tomorrow. I feel like i would be in more pain if i had torn anything so im hoping i just strained it / is that even possible? Has anyone experienced anything similar? Lacrosse starts tomorrow, im the only goalie in the program and i need to play... even if i cant run. fuck

I think this is a question better directed to a medical professional, as opposed to a bunch of snowboarders on a forum, so good luck with that hope it's not too serious. Where exactly is the pain, like right on your kneecap area, or more to the sides? My buddy had a pretty bad knee injury and it turned out to be just destroyed cartilage instead of ACL, thank god.

haha well i went to the docs today and they said i have no tears its most likely a sprain or strain. i cant play lacrosse for a week and my coach wants to kill me considering im the only varsity goalie AND i missed the first week of lax last year from a snowboarding injury too. Im pissed i gotta miss tryouts and my boarding season is definety over
. But on the bright side ill get better soon and hopefully there will be no permanent damage.
