Anyone else watch the part on the bonus features of Its Always Snowing Somewhere where they poach the skiers only mountains. I was surprised at how much some people really hate snowboarders and stereo type us as drunken bums that hang out in the parking lot and what not. Personally I would have loved to shred down those four mountains with all those guys, not because I have anything against skiing, some of my good friends are skiers, I just have a problem with the attitude and stereo typing.

There are only a few of those places left. 3 or 4 I think. Most skiers have nothing against boarders and those resorts are only kept like that because of the investors. They have a board that wants to keep the mountain in a certain way.
I don't think violating the slope's rules is going to get boarders allowed there any sooner.

it seems like with all these "action" sports you get a bunch of stereotypes slapped on you...
except maybe wakeboarding, I haven't heard too much criticism there.. haha But i can deffinitly say the whole "drunken bums in the parking lot" is deffinitly true with most of my friends....but not for me! I'm on the mountain till my legs turn to jello |

I completely understand the stereotyping when I see idiots like Mike Fran Montana or whatever dusting people with snow for being in the wrong place. I see punks driving like retards in the parking lot, being drunk and noisy and running over people on the slopes. Sometimes snowboarding attracts people like that because they think of it as a counter culture thing rather than just a really fun hobby.
It's far from true, but there are people who won't be convinced of that. It's like the whole one bad apple ruining the bunch metaphor.

I'm all for throwing back -A- beer after last chair. The real drinking however, shouldn't begin until you get home and you're soaking your aching muscles in the hot tub! You still have to drive home people, wth??
I think I've seen just as many drunken skiers making asses of themselves as I've seen boarders tho. a wise man once said

EDIT: A punk is a punk, plain and simple. As for the counter-culture thing, it's a load of BS. Snowboarding's about as counter culture as Katie Couric. Last edited by MunkySpunk; 03-20-2009 at 01:59 PM. |
