While at work today, coworker mentioned Boreal closing down for the season and that most of the other resorts have a similar closing date. His source is from "channel 4 - bay area" news, apparently they didn't make enough money to keep them running or some shit....

So I come home (got off early today) and check couple websites, sure enough, I'll post of most if not ALL closing dates that I can find.

Northstar: 4/19
Sierra: 4/20
Heavenly: 4/19
Squaw: 5/10
Boreal: closed
Sugarbowl: 4/26?
Homewood: closed
Alpine Meadows: 4/19
Mt. Rose: 4/19 then some weird extended season(check their website)
Mammoth: main lodge -> Memorial day weekend -> mid-late May
Kingvale Terrain Project: unknown (until all the snow melts apparently)

GET ALL YOUR RIDING DONE THIS WEEK!

The reason these resorts are now closing down is because of you the snowrider. The business is not there after March and it makes little sense for the resort to run a resort operation that costs at least a 5 digit figure a day to run. Another issue of dollars being spent. It cracks me up at how many people with plan a trip and spend a ton of money for a Thanksgiving or Christmas trip. They obviously don't care about the conditions that much because year in and year out that is worst time of year to ride. Even at Christmas a lot of places are barely past the white ribbon of death. Come April the snowpack is at it's deepest yet they don't even have the Thanksgiving weekend traffic.

Resorts used to extend their season based on people showing up the last couple of weeks of the season. Copper in the early 90's kept extending their season one week at a time for almost a full month. Now, when they say they are closing they mean it.

So rally your buddies for the closing weekend and show up in force. If the numbers at the end of the season start going up, you bet resorts will start staying open later. Skip that Thanksgiving trip and spend your money there later in the year.

people just dont understand the financial aspect of the industry. remember if you have a season pass the resort makes 0 off your riding for the day. so try to talk a few friends into going that may have to buy a day pass or even man up and go buy some 5 dollar fries and a 4 dollar coke in the lodge lol

riding up to brighton yesterday for 20 inches of new snow and looking at the shut down lifts covered in snow at Solitude ( they closed on the 12th ). I love to ride my road bike but just because theres flowers blooming in the yard doesnt mean im taking it out yet lol... theres plenty of days in july august and sept that ill have zero option to snowboard that the bike can have me. if theres snow im riding even when we have to hike in june
