knee injury.

hey guys. about a month ago, i went for a step down jump
at my local mountain and i landed on the knuckle. what happened
was i didnt get enough speed to completely clear it. my
front right half(i am goofy), cleared but the left half of
me did not, making me land all my weight upon my left leg.
right when i landed it felt like my knee exploded and i
slid off to the side where i wouldnt get smashed. it took
me about 15 minutes on the ground to get back up and just
ride down to the base.

anyway, the first two days after the slam i was on crutches
and then after that i was good enough to walk. it was getting
better everyday but then the progress sort of plateaued and
it hasnt been 100% since. ive been looking at knee diagrams
and injuries and im thinking it has something to do with my
fibula. on my left leg, it is the outside bone, right down
below where my knee pivots. currently, i am good enough to
walk, run and jump, as it's been letting me play basketball
but i can only half ass it.

so in short i landed all my weight on my left knee. it has
stopped getting better.
i can walk, half ass run, and half ass jump. and sometimes
if i put my leg in different positions the pain can climb
all the way up my femur.

i am seeing a doctor to get an x ray soon, but has anyone
experienced anything similar?

Knee injuries are scary for sure. I'd take it easy and cut out sports and jolting knee motions from your daily routine for a few weeks to see if you can start improving again. In January I hurt my knee trying something stupid coming off the lift. I came down on the one foot in the binding while in a twisting motion and for a few minutes was afraid I was out for the season, but ended up taking another run or two before going home (stupid). The pain was in the exact same place as yours I think. Left knee, outer side, right where the tibia and fibula meet right below (or kind of to the side/inside of) the knee joint. The next weekend it felt better so I went riding again (stupid) and had a jolting landing, then I called it quits as that seemed to wipe it out pretty badly. After that it didn't even seem to heal at all, even after giving it a 2-week rest. I tried renting one of those snowbikes since I couldn't board, couldn't even do that. Freaked myself out looking at those diagrams, I was afraid I injured the meniscus as it didn't seem to be healing. Got an X-ray, nothing showed up so that increased my fear of it being meniscus or ligament related. Decided to get an MRI done thanks to 60 dollar MRIs in Japan's health care system, and it turned out to be a bone bruise of the fibula, internal bleeding which couldn't be seen by an X-ray. Gave myself a month and by then it was good enough to ride again. The symptoms sound pretty similar to mine, especially since you're able to do sports at all I think it is at least something minor, most likely something that will heal. I wouldn't be surprised if the X-ray doesn't even show anything. Bone bruises heal slowly, so avoid doing anything other than walking if you can and if it isn't better in a month and after you've seen your X-ray results, maybe then consider something like an MRI. Stay optimistic.

1st - Stop doing anything that puts stress on your knee!

Wait to see what your doctor says. If it felt like your knee exploded, you could have torn, or partially torn your ACL/MCL or meniscus...Or all 3.

Definitely see a doctor. I am only good at Voodoo and so far it has never worked for anyone I have performed it on.

Each injury is different so take it in stride. It could be nothing but rest, it could mean a lot of metal in your leg, or anything inbetween.

Ya like everyone else has said don't mess around with knee's go see a doctor.

I screwed up my knee a couple years back playing basketball, doctor told me I was going to have to wait a year to get in for surgery but told me it would be fine to continue doing sports on it. Then I injured it worse snowboarding and knocked a piece of bone loose in my knee and it was just downhill from there.

Long story short just hope you dont have a loose piece of bone floating around in your knee like I did. It sucks, and starts hurting randomly or at the slightest contact.

hmm if its the outside of your leg(if im reading you correctly) it could well be a strain of the posterior cruciate or something like this.

I was playing rugby recently and someone landed on my knee massively hyperextending it.

Ive strained ligaments behind the knee and strained my PCL. Im the same, can walk, job, jump etc half assed but when i try to sprint it gives out.
Currently rehabbing hard to fix it by start of new season here(june).

Good luck. Get in to see your physio asap!
