You're traveling at a decent to high rate of speed with objects that won't move if you hit them on the slopes. Make a mistake and it'll knock the life out of you for sure. Colorado averages something like 12-14 collision deaths a year. Compare that to the 11 million skier visits we have in the state per year, and that really isn't that many. All other states have a much lower skier visit number and I am pretty sure the number of fatalities per year are much lower too. Regardless, it is always sad when this happens and I am sure it is little comfort to his family and friends.
