Longest Vert Single True Run

As I'm sitting here waiting for the season to start and dreaming of epic pow days I got to thinking about where to find the longest straight shot of pow. There are plenty of long runs that wind around a mountain from top to bottom - that is definitely not what I'm talking about. I mean a relatively constant slope, single shot run that goes on forever.

The Hobacks at Jackson Hole come to mind and I've had some great runs there, but I've never hit first tram on a powder day and made a beeline for a single massive run of untracked pow. https://jollyturns.com/resorts/ says North Hoback is about 2200 vertical, which would obviously be pretty amazing to ride untracked in one shot.

So what say you for the longest single continuous powder run. I might have to make a bucket list just for these runs!

Are we talking named runs at resorts....or just a continuous run....because that would most likely be in Alaska, because it has the longest continuous vertical that you can ride top to bottom. Granted it is most likely over 35 degrees and as a result, will end much quicker than a long snaky run at some resort.:snowboard2:

The problem with runs like Chips or Primrose Path is that they wind around and include a lot of different terrain. I think Chips actually includes cat tracks if you take it top to bottom.

I'm looking for runs that are really just long straight shots of potentially unadulterated pow.

I found Pitch Black on that jollyturns site. I could not tell from the map whether it would actually feel like a single consistent run, but it sure looks close.

On a perfect snorkel day do you think you could just fly top to bottom with no real change in the ride, or cat tracks or other interruption?

I think I know where it's going to be? Haha

I wanna move there & set up guided tours/accomidations.

I've been thinking about this exact thing.

All I'd have to do, is make 1 video.

1 video of myself slaying powder for longer than any mortal has ever seen.

I don't even know how long that would be?

Top to bottom, 1 non-stop run, lasting?
5 minutes?
10 minutes?
No idea, BUT, it will be the longest run anyone in north America has ever seen.

Just that, that 1 single video, of yours truly slaying powder for however long that may be?

Would be enough to have my little operation booked solid forever.

Cause I know if I watched said video of myself slaying the longest run ever seen by north American eyes.

Firs I'd think, man, that's a handsome dude. Haha.

Then I would have to do that, like it would be something I needed to do.

1 single video, that's all it would take, to be booked solid, forever.

Where?

You'll see >:)

Me thinks you're looking at the wring continent... :)

One run over here I have on my bucket list is to Vallée Blanche in Chamonix which is 8860ft. Looks pretty consecutive.

Talking about straight resort runs? Riva at vail is pretty good verticle for US mountains. Probably 2500-3000' drop continuous. It flattens at the bottom so I wont put the fill length they claim, it is my favorite first untracked un on a powder day in vail. Usually I can get 2 laps in before crowds arrive and the backside opens....

Revelstoke is a killer from peak to gondola base and is quad killing continuous vert for like 5500'. Only doable for like 6 weeks a year... Bachelor summit to base of northwest lift is great terrain and doable most of the year with no crowds, about 2800-3000'

Yah, Revy has a good peak to base run through on a couple of runs. Worth looking.

The one that comes to mind from the places I've been is the Peak to Creek run at Whistler. Whistler Mountain peak to the base at the creek side. Fully lift serviced (3 lifts).
Matches exactly what the OP wants - one long run with no real meandering, crossing paths, or cat tracks. A real leg burner overall. Blue run btw.

I'm guessing that's valemount :)

I thought you were talking about P2C.

For those that haven't ridden whis, it's a run called peak to creek (as Grey mentioned).

1.5km vertical and 5.5km distance. No cat tracks or trail connectors. A solid mellow 25 degree (my estimate) undulating slope.

If you could do this run, without stopping a couple times, I'd say your're in the top 1% in fitness haha. Fwiw I've never even come close to doing the entire run without taking rests.

It only gets groomed once-ish per week when the trail is "open".

The trail is roped off right now because the coverage near the base is very spotty.

It's on the regular trail map, however it's not easy to get to if you're a tourist.

I wanted to do it the other day but didn't have anybody to do it with. I didn’t want to do it solo in case got myself into a bad situation haha.

However, of course the local whistler pros posted a video of the run that day slashing waist deep haha.

If anybody visits whis, id be happy to show you the run. Even if it isn't a pow day, you will get a sense of how redic it could be.

If you talking lift serviced worldwide, probably Chamonix. If you are talking lift serviced N. America, probably Revelstoke or Whistler. But man you are talking serious leg burners. I'd prefer something a bit shorter, I need the rest and the beer. Sadly, I have never been to any of these resorts. Revy is top of my list as it is only 10 hour drive away, but I gotta wait until my kids are a bit older. My 5 year old would probably die at Revelstoke.

They started building the day lodge at Jumbo too, now it's cancelled. I'll believe it when I see it. Valemount is certainly not in a prime location to attract guests!

Revelstoke isn't anywhere near build out yet, and it's much closer to a major city.

It'll be cool, but I wouldn't get my hopes up yet.

Yes, I took the guided mountain tour on my first day at Revelstoke when I was there a couple of years ago.
From what the guide told us about their hopes for growing the resort, it has serious potential to be awesome.
And it's already one of my favourite resorts. I hope they are able to expand before I get too old!:frown:

Thanks for the continued input. The one time I was at Whistler we stayed entirely over on the Blckcomb side. I was also tele skiing so I probably wasn't doing more than 500' without a rest! The idea of a long epic run is not the fitness issue, but the dream of getting completely mentally lost surfing endless powder. When I move back out West and can hit Whistler again I'll definitely remember P2C.
