I did a trip down to Monarch Pass to ride the bc around there. Turned out to be a good call. Had about 3 ft of fresh on the ground. Knee to waste deep snow in the trees there. Wish the light had of been better, no pics from me on this one. Though there are a few photo's and pov footy on Tom's blog dated January 4th that is from that day. So you can see what we got into.
Spent yesterday at Berthoud Pass. Pretty nice conditions, though it's not nearly as deep as it is at Monarch Pass. The snow has just gotten to the point where it is covering most everything. We did the 90's area into Current Creek and the coverage there was pretty damn good. After that we skinned across the valley and did the Lower 110's and into the tree in the 120's. The trees in the 120's had lot's of snow snakes just under the surface and I got bit twice. Lot's of rock skipping for sure. Still pretty good and another foot of snow should make a huge difference back there. Notes on the snow pack for bc riders. It's shit. At Berthoud, our pit revealed two hard slabs with a 6 inch depth hoar layer between the slabs, and then the last six inches to the ground was depth hoar. Classic step down layer. Riding in the alpine is going to be insanely stupid and deadly for a good long time. Much the same results at Monarch Pass. |

Thursday: I broke the lease on my snow-place because my landlady was a nutjob. no idea what I'm going to do now for my crash pad.
Friday: great day at Northstar, if you like to get rained on Saturday: awesome day at Sierra at Tahoe, watched the PBRJ and worked on my jib skillz, y0! Wife hit her first box as well (I was holding her hands, not sure if that counts) Sunday: park day with my cousin. the first kinked tree at the Stash claimed my back. I suck at rails, must keep to boxes... the end.

Went to Lake Louise on Friday... very good snow off the backside, but a LOT of rocks, but luckily managed to ride the day with only a few base scratches. Regardless, my new SL-R got more battle scars this one day than the 6 days prior. People were inspecting their core shots at the lift lines all day.
I still hate Louise: - Stupid platter is a pain for snowboarders, saps a lot of energy riding that thing - I realize, that even on a Powder day, there are too many rocks - Too many people side slipping slopes they shouldn't be on, making the entrances to the double blacks a rocky mess I was sick Saturday, but took the kids to the local hill anyway, and realized snowboarding while dizzy is a lot of fun in its own way. |

Oh yes, I hit a tree at nearly full clip.
2 trees with about 2 feet between them... looked good to go between, except for the hidden stump to catch an edge on. I have a nice bruise on my thigh and arm, and great case of whiplash. Did I mention I hate Louise? |

Hahah I wasent there but kirkwood's generator blew up and they were out of power for a good few days. They were offering complementary snowcat rides and free breakfast lunch and dinner.

Oooh nice the 'dacks! Great looking terrain there.
Zee, for that spot, snow shoes are probably not that bad. I know some splitters who hit the area, and while they do tour, they also spend a lot of time in crampons and just booting up the stuff there. Lot's of steep lines in the 'dacks. |
