Default First Board: Need Wide and Stable, help!

I'm in the Midwest where the slopes are pretty packed and icy, I'm new to the sport, been a few times and love it. I tried a couple boards, K2 and Rossignol rental, the K2 Viper did not hold a stable edge for me down a hill. I am 180lb 6ft, size 12-13 boot. I've talked with The House and they said the Burton deuce wide would be nice and stable, medium flex. A Signal was mentioned as well. The graphics are not my thing or I would just buy one of the 2...price range is $300....advice on responsive bindings for a wide board would be much appreciated. First time on this forum...

I am not a expert but I would suggest a larger WIDE board they are common. I would also suggest getting a board of 160 or larger
here is a good starter package http://www.boardsforless.com/16ltdfuwisnb.html
