Default The House - buyer beware

Ever dealt with them? I have. Not a good experience. They lied and told me I could exchange a pair of boots without the restocking fee. I paid the shipping back to them, paid an increase in price for the new set of boots - then they hit me with restocking fee. Sneaky. I won't buy from them ever again.

Did you contact them about that and then cancel your order?

I contacted them thru email. They ignored me until I threatened to elevate the issue to the BBB. Then they replied that they were sorry I "misunderstood" their rep. This all cost me an add'l $65 to "exchange" a pair of boots. I didn't return anything. I still made the purchase, and I paid for everything in order to get the first set of boots back to them. I thought that was the right thing to do, but they weren't very fair about it. Seems they'll do anything for a few extra bucks.

Restocking fees are lame unless something has to be repackaged or sold at a discount after a return.

Were the boots unworn when you returned them?

The boots I returned were unworn, packaged to match original packaging (original box with original tissue, no tags removed, etc). I simply returned them for a larger size. I paid for shipping and an increase in price for the new boot. The House told me "no problem, we'll exchange them out", then when I got my CC receipt I noticed they stiffed me with the restocking fee. Lame is an understatement. Then they were intent on ignoring my inquiry. Had to apply a little pressure (BBB) to get a response.

Nobody is perfect. There will always be customers that get less than ideal treatment. On the flip side, there will always be those customers who, no matter what you do, will never be satisfied. It's all a part of the retail game.

Have you ever had to exchange anything? The buyer experience was fine. It's what happened when I had to exchange the item that created the problem.

Leo, I don't disagree with you. But The House didn't do the fair and right thing. I'm just sharing my experience in having to exchange something with them. They shafted me unnecessarily with a restocking fee. I spent in the high hundreds at their store. You bet I expect ideal treatment. The House didn't play fair with me in the retail game.
