i don't think that is entirely accurate is it?

what canada lacks, is this illconceived 'right' to bare arms.

guns are like cars, potentially lethal if inappropriately used, and so such things being available ought to be a privilege not a right. IMO.

Obviously there is more to this story. I think the tailgaiting car was skiers! they didnt like those pot head punks in front of them...most likely had an altercation on the slopes.

Paolo, I couldn't agree with you more on that it should be a "priviledge". People hate change in America though. Even if it would lead to less funerals for families. We're super intelligent that way...

it is only natural to fear the unfamiliar....
(when you lack confidence in the integrity of your character.)

but MPD might have a (slightly deluded point)... skiers are prone to being serious!
this crime fits with their modus operandi!

That's actually not true at all... I read a study that shows people in Canada actually own more guns than the US with the whole hunting culture in western Canada. The difference is that canadians don't feel the need to shoot/kill each other for no reason. They are less gripped in fear of each other, leave their doors open have trust etc. Here in the state we are constantly forced into a state of fear and panic which makes us act like complete idiots

'read a study' or watched 'bowling for columbine'??
that film raises several good points and asks many more relevent questions....

but whilst he might have found that many front doors left unlocked.... i bet for each open door, he had tried 20 very locked ones!

the fear and panic you mentioned is derived from 24 hour rolling news coverage. canada has this same mental anguish provider as the rest of us IMO.

I actually haven't seen "Bowling For Columbine"... I didn't even know he did that!

I am sorta anti Michael Moore...I have a problem with someone doing the exact same thing as the people he criticizes but on the opposite end of the spectrum i.e. editing and slanting his stories to suit the need of his goal.

He's a smart guy has made some good points but I don't see him as any better than the rest of the media

No I read this study back in college for one of my comm classes Media something or other and it was published in some comm journal back in like 99. Sounds like good old Michael read the same study or something along those lines and then went and did a part of his film on it

The fear aspect of my post was using all the shit I was taught during my media comm major...

i know what you mean on mr moore's will to slant the facts to fit a preconceived notion.

however, he is obliged to tailor it so as to be attractive and then digestible to a popular audience. (you don't get as fat as that from eating scraps!)

however, even if such 'poetic license' is inappropriate, at least his efforts (at his end of the spectrum,) theoretically should result in greater peace; the same cannot be said of those of the same ilk at his polar opposite.

anyways....

Agree with you their...I was all about being involved in the media space in some form but then once I started taking the classes that exposed me to most of the truth's behind it I couldn't bring myself to do it for a career...

It's true with Moore, at least he does try to show the opposing side of things, maybe not as ethically as I'd like but he does at least give the opposition a voice. I just hate when people take his word for gospel when they don't realize they were just programmed to see that side of it

that might be true, but i can almost guarantee that not 'hunter' will pull out his hunting rifle on a human being. A lot of them carry hand guns too (for bear attacks), but from what I hear they rarely, to never get used.

I wouldn't draw on a similarity between guns and cars though... I mean; cars if used improperly may result in death or serious injury, but that is hardly their purpose. Guns are made with the specific intent to kill, or otherwise injure something or someone... hardly the same.

Personally, I feel that no one should have the right to carry guns. Hunting rifles i can accept, cuz in some cases farmers need them to protect livestock, but since I'm against hunting and (almost) a vegetarian, i guess I'm biased
