Noah Salasnek, R.I.P.

Snowboarding lost one of its greatest yesterday with the passing of Noah Salasnek due to cancer. To say he was influential on the shred world would be one incredible understatement. Noah's skate-influenced style set snowboarding in a new direction from its crazy neon roots. He was also one of the first to bring proper freestyle into big mountain lines.

Transworld posted a great retrospective earlier this month here for anyone who wants to learn more about this amazing snowboarding pioneer.

Rest in Peace, brother...

The first snowboard magazine I ever bought (in 1991) had a cover story on Noah Salasnek; it also turned out to be the last issue of International Snowboarding Magazine. I had attempted to learn to ski a year earlier with friends, and when I saw Noah in his neon threads snowboarding like a skateboarder, it blew me away; it was amazing! Seeing this story and those pictures inspired me to try snowboarding. It has taken me a long time to learn to snowboard, and I know in my own lifetime my snowboarding proficiency will never hold a candle to Noah's. But I will be forever grateful to have taken up snowboarding and for all the enjoyment it has brought me, and I will forever be grateful to Noah for his inspiring me to snowboard. I am sad that he has been taken from us at such a young age, and I hope he will rest in peace. I will miss him terribly.

Been a Noah fan from the early days, his style was right up there with Lynn, Ranquet, Peter Line, Jason Ford etc.

Ride In Peace
