Kind of related to my toolboarders rant, how many people do you think really just board to board? While I'm glad there's these people here keeping the snowboarding business running, it seems like a lot of boarders' mindsets are terrain park, energy drinks, girls. Starting boarding with my friend who's been at it for 2 years (who is a perfect example of a toolboarder), I'm seeing a horrible image of your "average boarder". He can't even get 2 feet of air without staying up (no joke), and just a bit ago he told me that from now on he's only going to board in the park. WTF? Are most boarders really like this, or is my friend just setting a bad example (or am I interpereting it wrong)? Honestly, I simply dream of crashing through fresh powder on a mountain, over rocks and through trees. How many people really just board because they feel free and alive when they do it? Are these the people you see rocking the super kicker or are those toolboarders too (or does it not matter)?
Btw, getting my cast off monday ![]() No school + first day with cast off = good day for boarding

But still it just seems like there's too many people who do it to impress their friends and get girls. I dunno though, still starting. Got a lot to learn.

So are you implying that park riding is inferior to freeriding?
Honestly, most of this post doesn't make much sense. "Who boards just to board?" What does that even mean? And "he can't even get 2 feet of air without staying up (no joke)" - what????

First of all, end the "tool" bs. You use that word more than I use the word "the".
Second, people will ride the way the want to ride. If you're worrying about that and how/what they ride, then are you really snowboarding for the love of it? If someone is having fun riding park only, more power to them, ride the park like a madman if it makes you happy. Snowboarding is an individual sport, which means making individual decisions. Many of us that have been doing it a long time, including myself (who currently has nasty whiplash) have suffered numerous injuries. If we didn't love the sport we wouldn't tolerate the slams. |

i agree about "toolboarders" all the peeps on mt hood who ride just park (aka hood rats) think that snowboarding is just park. Jumps, jibs and rails. I think what you are saying is that its becoming evident in the snowboarding world that if you are not a park rat and cant do big 540s or board slides you are a fag or not "cool." Not saying that park is gay or anything, i love the park and spend a good deal of time, but there is more to the mountain then alternative music and the park.
