Hey i am thinking of buying some boots and bindings tonight from sierra. My question is if anyone has ordered from them in Canada was there a large shipping cost when they were delivered to you? (ordered board from porters tahoe last year and had to pay 60 bucks when it arrived at my house) Thanks in advance!
I got my nitro swindle last week from sierra. Paid $26 for fedex expedited shipping and $24 for GST and duty. You probably paid some kind of brokering fee to the shipping company when you paid 60 bucks, Fedex covers the brokering fee is you use expedited shipping.
Brokerage is free when you pay to ship Fedex express. I initially said expedited, the correct term is express. FedEx Express International Economy is what I chose and did not get charged brokerage fee.
sierra is by far my favorite site for great discounts and FAST shipping... the return policy on backcountry is ridiculously awesome, but sierra has such great deals (and I'm sort of addicted to their chat room)
I bought a snowboard and got it shipped to canada. In total i had too pay 147.94 or something, but that included shipping, duty, brokerage, and whatever else.
Yeah express shipping. When I ordered last week they had 3 choices: ground, express economy and express priority, I chose express economy and only took 4 days to get here.
I got a 158 flow merc for and flow quattro bindings, my duties+gst came to 23.10.
I ordered my package on Tuesday, and it arrived on Thursday =)
It's funny that you mention the shipping costs, because there was one time I refreshed that the shipping did cost ~$33, but I just thought the page was broken......silly me.
It sucks that I essentially have to pay 23.10 duties/GST + 44.28 shipping + 17.39 in exchange rate; a total of 84.77 extra...and Americans have 0 extra costs and free shipping. I thought we were friends =(
Saddest part is that even with all those extra costs, it is still way cheaper then buying at a shop.
Hey an employee of mine pointed this out to me. I'm one of the owners over at Porters in Lake Tahoe. By your post I could assume that a) you weren't aware that there were additional costs when you ordered internationally and might be thinking we were trying to pull one over on you....and/or b) you believe the duties/taxes were way too high....and again thinking we were trying to pull one over on you.
Let me get straight to the heart of the issue. I apologize for any confusion that we contributed to by not making it more explicitly clear that there would be extra costs after it crossed the border...as well as it being a little higher than some of the other total costs mentioned in the thread (we're setting up a similar FedEx international shipping option in a bit here too fyi).
Well that bums me out to have you not wanting to buy from us again. We're a family-owned business in the heart of the mountains that is passionate about snowboarding and deeply cares about our customers. We'll always make something right if you're not happy - including taking back used items under our performance satisfaction guarantee - or something as simple as refunding that $60 that clearly tainted your opinion of us.
No I have nothing bad to say about your shop I was expecting additional charges just not that high. I appreciate your reply but I would feel like taking advantage of you for asking you to take care of me lol. I would still consider you guys if I can't find a product that I want from a Canadian site first.
Thanks for the clarification and the kind words. Sometimes the lack of tone can lead to different interpretations on the interwebs and I obviously assumed the wrong thing. But I have to agree that we've had higher total costs with the UPS Air we've been using and it had already led us to talk to FedEx just because of experiences like yours. So the least I can do is offer free shipping the next time you get some stuff from us...consider it a thank you for the constructive criticism that we're taking to heart and improving.
The ground services from both UPS and FedEX are killer on brokerage, it's not the fault of the retailer. Priority and Expedited are ususally OK, or you can look into world ease type of service.
The best of course is USPS Priority it is tracked, and Canada Post only charges a $5 brokerage... and there's a post office near everyone to pick up the order if the driver can't drop it off.
Awesome thanks =)
What type of shipping did you find best using Forwardit?
