Default CA legislator pushing for Mandatory helmet laws.

The Associated Press: CA bills push rules for ski, snowboard industry

Flawed at best. Either idea puts the burden on all the wrong people. If you live in Cali, I'd start harrasing your representatives about this big time.

It is just like riding a motorcycle it SHOULD be a personal choice. But there is always some fucking politician that wants to stick there nose into everyone's biz!

I can almost see the arguments for motorcycles, but that can be policed by a governing authority. What they are asking for here puts the ski areas in a near impossible situation. They are going to be forced to be the enforcers of this stupid law, get penalized for people breaking it, or both. Pretty lame. I also think ski areas are doing a pretty good job of encouraging helmet use. The road to hell is paved with good intentions I guess.

Both activities are very dangerous. I have always chosen to wear a helmet from day one but i feel if you dont want to that is your choice. It just makes me fuming mad when a politician tries to say what is good for you.

I just think that making something mandatory until a certain age is a bad idea... (i.e. you have to wear a helmet unless you're over 18). That will introduce (or strengthen) the view that helmets are only for children when they should be for everyone... (although I think it should be a choice)

Example: You turn 18. What do people do? Buy lottery tickets and cigarettes.

I wear one, but I would never force someone to wear one through legislation. Hell I don't even preach about helmets to people. Wear one if you like not wearing diapers, don't if you want to risk it. No biggie.

Not only does it place undue burden and responsibility on the mountain staff, it allows people to "escape" their personal liability. Let's say, worst case, this bullshit passes. What the fuck is to stop some person from suing the resort if their loved one is hurt, etc. in an incident where they were not wearing a helmet when the "law" doesn't "allow" it...the monday AM quarterbacks love to suggest that a helmet would have prevented. So, now a floodgate can be opened in which liability, reasonable assumption of risk and MAKING YOUR OWN FUCKING CHOICES in life, gets to be passed along to the resort. So what now? At which point do we get to (1) make our own decisions and (2) be accountable for those decisions??? I do always wear a helmet, by personal choice. Yes, I think helmets are safe and I won't ride without one. But I do get pissed when the monday AM QBs decide to hold court and become the authority on shit they know fuckall about...I get more pissed every day when people tell me how to live my life ESPECIALLY the fucking government. Wear my shoes for a day...then you cut off your feet.

and btw...it should be more illegal that people are going hungry...how bout that??? fucking politicians...jump on any bandwagon they can to drum up bullshit publicity...attempting to rally the bully pulpit (only at the peril of recent victims and their survivors). meanwhile REAL fucking life goes on around them.

You got it dead on. Unfortunately, people don't want to accept responsibility for their own decisions, so politicians are trying to make it so that they don't have to.
I don't have a problem with helmets, and am planning on getting one for next year(for icy/rock hard days), but it should be a personal choice.
What next, force people to wear wrist guards because you can break your wrist in a fall?
This is where they are headed:

Enjoy the padded life.

ya helmets do prevent a lot of head injuries. but its not like head injuries are the only or even the most common injury out there. what are they going to make us do next? maybe it should be a law that you have to where wrist guards and ass pads too. Its not like helmets are even the magic thing that stops all injuries i still got a concussion wearing one.
