Default 8 yr old shredder (video)

Here's Vid #1 of A.J. Mart's 2010 season, riding Hood and Bachelor.

He's getting pretty decent. We're thinking he might be close to getting some sort of low level sponsorship and would really appreciate any kind of contact info that any fellow members might have.

Hope you guys dig the video.

That was a joke right. How do you expect anyone to tell how good he is through PICTURES and some funky slow motion shots. I mean your kid could be good or he could be bad, its just impossible to tell from that video.

This is the advice i give to most people who are making videos. Don't try to do any kind of fancy editing it only makes the video worse. Just get good shots of the kid riding; rails and jumps. Then put them together. Thats it. Video Editing takes talent and most people who try to do it, usually make their videos worse. Thats just my 2 cents. Happy shredding

Your son rocks!

With that said, I agree that your video has bad editing. Still pictures are not the best thing to put in videos when you are looking for sponsorhips.

Might consider backing it off just a notch or two.

I know how good he is and was not asking you or anyone else to tell me how good he is from this video. I didn't make this vid to submit to anyone for evaluation. I was asking for any contact info or suggestions on contacting any local reps in an attempt to gather info. Let me say that again, gathering info. Not looking for opinions on whether this vid will get him sponsored. I have no delusions about that.

I know how to edit video. I used to run my own production company making wakeboarding vids and, golly gee, I was even good enough to have a contract with VAS Entertainment.

Our last DVD: Numbskull Productions Revolution

Regardless, it's all on hold anyway since the little guy got taken out from behind by some adult boarder with his head up his backside. Our kid got backflipped 4' in the air breaking his collar bone and he's done for at least 2 months. Vertical break in the tip of the bone. Hoping it heals properly and the growth plate doesn't shut down. If it does, his shoulder may not grow properly.

Tripper might have overreacted, but he is correct with his evaluation. I understand that you are here to gather information, but people won't pull their resources if they can't judge the talent for themselves. If I knew some people that could get your kid sponsored, I would want to see a better video of his talents. I wouldn't just take your word for it since every father is going to say their kid shreds.

Your editing per-se isn't bad. It is your choice of editing for the intended use of the video. It is not a very good showcasing of your kids talent. If you are serious about this sponsorship thing, you need to get some raw footage of him just shredding everything in sight.

I have tons of contacts but your kid has 0 marketability. Let him go ride and do his thing if he's good he'll get noticed and that's that.

Ironically I just happen to be writing a post about this today ... not this as in your kid but this as in the "my kid rips " thing thats starting to creep into snowboarding and skateboarding.

Heres my take

1 Trippers right .. if you put a video up you are opening it up for critique .. you could have just as easily posted your original post without the youtube link. Just because the first response isnt what you wanted doesnt mean you get to disregard it. Ive trust youve seen open forums before they are full of hate... people hate on Shaun White dont think your kid will be any different

2 I know you posted Hood and Bachelor but a little more clarification on where you live may help someone give you some contacts. I know some local guys .. I live in SLC if you do not then my knowledge is useless to you.

3 You are coming off as the overbearing coach dad in just a few posts .. back off let your kid have fun and see where it goes. Boardsports (as you know) are about expression and style ... thats something your kid will have to develop on his own you cant teach coach or will it into him. Posting a vid and telling him youre looking for local sponsors will build his confidence in the short term but crush it if no one comes calling. Being the over bearing parent is the kiss of death in the snow/skate world.

4 your kid is smiling as he rides ... YOU be the one to take it back or notch or two and let that smile be your reward

Winner, winner. Chicken dinner.

Insane parents are the reason I quit minor hockey as a kid. Don't be that parent.

your kid is def a good rider and has a lot of room to progress but there are a ton of little guys out there that straight up KILL it. i have 3 8-9 year olds that i coach that can spin front and backside 180s and 360s off of 35-45 foot jumps and front board flat down rails like a man. even with all that the parents have trouble finding sponsors for these guys. give him some more time to get a little better and find his style and maybe someone will notice him.

I agree, video sucks. You cant see anything about how good he may or may not be from it. All you can tell is that he is having fun... thats a possitive.... From the couple of full motion shots, he doesnt look good enough for sponsorship. My son is 10 and on equal level or better and I would not even think about wanting him to compete at any level. I will encourage him to keep getting better and advancing through more difficult tricks/terrain on the mountain. I will send him to summer camps to try and further him because he loves it. Not everyone is gonna be shaun white.
