Default Kicking Horse Expands Terrain

Kicking Horse Expanding Ski Terrain :: First Tracks!! Online Ski Magazine :: The ski and snowboard world at your keyboard

There is still only ONE lift that goes from the bottom to the top.

I'd love to go visit KH. I hear the slackcountry riding out the gates there is absolutely amazing. That with a visit to Rogers Pass is pretty high on my list of things to do.

When the snow is good, it is amazing, except the Gondola line-up at the bottom can be hours long.

I have a love/hate relationship with the place. I'd imagine it's like having a hot girlfriend that doesn't put out very often.

One of the best hills in Canada, with one of the worst lift systems in Canada, it's a shame.

I guess you can call it "expanding" just because they call that area in-bounds now. Access to it is still the same as always (hiking) with no new chair or anything. And plus we've all be riding that terrain anyway, so basically.... nothing new.

Technically you are correct, there are 4 lifts, but only one that you can use if you are at the bottom and want to get to the top.

Usually, we do the CPR chutes, stairway chair, and ride some trees, then over into Fuez. Top half is great, the bottom not so good.

I agree, worst lift system anywhere.

Yeah man you go it, that's pretty much "the kicking horse lap" in my opinion.
Imagine what a mid-station on that gondola below the below could do!...
- open up access to lap any of the 3 bowls
- families can lap the lower half
- extend their season by a month on either side
Sell those crap useless lifts (catamount & pioneer) to a small hill so they can expand (Castle seems to be working good by buying up used cheap lifts and have turned themselves into a sick hill due to it). Should have put the "Stairway to Nowhere" chair elsewhere.

I've heard it now gets pretty slammed there on weekend powder days. I never go anywhere on a weekend anyway so I don't run into the problem luckily.
It's hard enough trying to convince people from Revy to go to the Horse, because to hit a powder day there you usually must skip one here (which I don't mind I'm getting a hundred in here anyway) And then it all depends on if the highway is open. Hopefully I'll get out there for a few days still.

I've been to Revy only once for a 2 day trip. It was a week after a snowfall and we were still riding powder in the trees. I really like that place!

Kicking Horse is a clusterfuck on powder days. We got there at ~8:45 one morning, and did not get our first run until 11. Unacceptable.

Only been a few times, but was my favorite place to ride up there. Out of Louise, Sunshine and Norquay at least. I was lucky enough to not have any bad line ups or waits. Hope I don't experience that!

I really like the backside of Louise, but it is a board killer. A LOT of shark fins. The DB chutes off Eagle Ridge are great without having to ride the torturous platter.

There's some great stuff at Sunshine... I prefer it to Louise is some ways.

Kicking Horse's terrain is better than both. Revy is amazing as well.

Zee, you seem to know what's up.
Shoot me a msg if you're ever heading out this way and we'll hit up a few runs at RMR.
