Early season joys

So, today was opening day for me. Not a ton of snow yet, actually more then usual this time of year, but of course the first thing I did was disregard the signs that said. "LOW COVERAGE. Stick to groomed runs only" and started shredding some powder.

Things I encountered today:
-Rocks: lots of rocks, mostly hidden ones that make you cringe as you ruin your board unknowingly riding over them

-Bushes: I did lots of bush riding today. Small bushes are fine to ride over, big ones grab your board and flip you

- Magic Hidden Trees/Roots: These you cannot see whatsoever and are actually hidden about 1 foot under the top of the powder. You will be shredding along, kickin through some deep powder and then all the sudden you feel these arms grabbing your legs and the next thing you know your doing a somersault.

- Borderline rain/snow: This was the best part, there was so much godamn moisture in the air your goggles would freeze over every minute, causing you to stop and vigorously scrape them. Having your goggles frozen over makes all of the above features that much easier to catch.

-Poorly groomed runs: Normally they do a phenomenal job of grooming, but maybe because of the lack of snow everything turned into a fucking mini mogul, making you fly off them while you can't see shit because your goggles are frozen and hit trees.

So, anyone else have an epic opening day?

My first day on snow since march will be tomorrow and i can't wait. Last week we had a massive storm come through and drop around 100cm of snow in about a two and a half day period. Our snow pack is sitting at around 70cm so I'm hoping a good portion of the rocks and stuff are covered. It was snowing for a good portion of the day here so we should be looking at another 5-10cm for opening day tomorrow so it should be sweet. The hill posted this video on monday and it looks dece:

Yea, we just don't ever get those dumps, we get gradual accumulations. I think the bottom base is probably only 22' right now, top around 50-60'.

that sucks dude!
mount Washington has a base of 100cm right now!
even though its crappy wet snow but still, lots of it!

Can you bend the googles to pop off the ice?

Opening day for my puny little backyard hill at 1000 meters. Going tomorrow. Gotta sleep now.

WOW, today was a polar opposite from yesterday, which kind of sucked. About 6 new inches of sorta light pow on top of the slightly compacted stuff just made everything way more covered, and super rippable. I was just balls out powder bombing all day, it was soooo good. No new bad gouges either.

I'm so amazed at the R.C tech, my 151 Evo with a centered stance was just dominating the powder today, I had to ride in the back seat to keep my nose up but overall it was incredible. Talk about a board that really does everything.

My day turned out really well also we ended up with another 20cm overnight and had no trouble finding fresh lines all day. Only downside was some areas in the trees had absolutely no base and if you stopped or fell you would sink down like 2 feet and have to spend like 20 minutes digging your self out. The trails and glades that where compacted a little more where amazing and my only complaint would be that some stuff ended up getting pretty choppy at the end of the day. I ended up leaving a bit earlier cause i got tired and my back leg was dead. I didn't end up with any gashes as almost all the rocks where covered and only real annoyance was the top of some alder bushes but those where just minor. Ill probably go back up tomorrow for the afternoon as we aren't expecting any new stuff and my legs are super sore.
