That method was free! Not $1800! Anyway, there really isn't a ton of price gouging, although i do find it outrageous that, at least at my local hill, a 4 hour pass is $42 and a full day pass is $45. I mean come on... is $3 all that important to you!?

Cost is not the price of raw materials, it's everything that went into making that shit up until the point that the manufacturer delivers it to the retailer.

Making snowboarding goods is a business, there is no "soul" in it and there never was. If you think there was then you are delusional. There is a massive R&D cost, Marketing cost, Manufacturing cost, overhead cost, then the retailer has to get paid. It's not cheap by any stretch and there are a lot of people who need to get paid for doing what they do.

Sure there is the odd product or two that is wildly expensive, but they are labelled as luxury products, are marketed as luxury products and have limited manufacturing runs, chances are you will never see this $1800 snowboard in your local shops. I don't think $750 is unreasonable for a hand crafted snowboard with all these technological goodies that make my ride smoother. I don't think $250 is unreasonable for a POS made in china either. $600 for a 3L Gore-Tex jacket that will keep me dry to the core is completely reasonable once you see the manufacturing process that goes into it.

It sounds to me like you just can't keep up in this race for better gear if you want to gripe about it. So just stick to the cheap shit
600 bucks for a gortex jacket? Keeping up with the gear race?
You surely exemplify the idiocracy i'm talking about. It's not a race. That's the mentality in Vancouver and city life talking. I'm not looking for cheap shite. I don't mind paying for good quality products at a reasonable price. A hand-crafted board is worth $750, I agree with that much. The problem is too much mass-produced, mass-marketed, overpriced junk that will fall apart faster than you can order your frappacrappa skinny milk mochaccinno at Starbucks.
There was a time when Tom, Chuck, Jake and other pioneers did want to share the soul of snowboarding. A unique community was created. It was reasonable and still can be with good quality. You're attitude along with others can change and you have the power to demand quality without the hefty price tag. I think your problem, as many others is expensive 'race' winning gear, doesn't hide your inability to ride. And if you think you're race is worth it...well maybe try to define the word delusional.
