I think I tore my ACL

I was heelsliding down a hill to slow down, and I hit a small bump, went airborne and landed and it felt like my knee shifted down. I went down the hill and my knee was unstable the whole way, slipping a little. Now, can an ACL be sprained, which is causing the slippage or is it just one of those, either you did nothing or you tore it. I didn't hear a pop, but it is weak and when I shake my leg, it feels like it's not connected. Damnit, this is only my second time snowboarding too.

If it is torn, can one snowboard without an ACL. I know I said in another topic it's not possible, but has anyone here done it?

well, i dont know how well you deal with pain, but anyone i've ever know that has torn their acl, mcl, meniscus or any of those other knee parts were in way to much pain to snowboard. i'm no doctor but you may have just compressed it, there's an amount of cartiledge (i think) in the joint for cushioning. I guess my real answer to you is don't ask if you have an injury on a snowboard forum, go to a flipping doctor.

Snowboarding Is...

That thing I do to escape the world and have fun with my friends

lancer that slipping is a vital sign to show that you either seriously sprained your acl or your indeffinately tore it...when i tore my acl i didnt hear a pop it just got twisted to heLL and snapped...check out my whole post so you can get the whole scoop...and snowboarding with a tore acl is highly something you do not want to do...when i think about it it has to be almost impossible.

get to a doctor.. and get an MRI.. you can function with an slightly torn ACL but you wont be able to do high intense levels of work such as with snowboarding.... the ACL prevents the tibia (shin bone) from displacing forward.. in my opinion you should get it checked out because it might not even be your acl that tore it could be something else..

I know it's the ACL, since I have no meniscus left and I've torn it before. The only difference is that I was able to walk around after hurting my knee, so I don't know the actual severity of the accident.

you can "sprain" the acl.. also could be inflammation.. Im in school for physical therapy.. i learn this stuff but there is no way of knowing whats going on inside there. IMO go to a Sport doctor (orthopaedic surgeoun) get his opinion, He will definatly be sending you for an MRI like i said earlier.. even if he confirms a tear by doing a "Anterior draw test" you still will be sent for an MRI to look for further dammage

I wrapped it in ACE Bandage and will go to the docs tomorrow. I don't think a MRI is possible b/c of the screw in my knee though.
