Extreme recent pain in my knee has caused me to read through this thread again. I'm making an appointment tomorrow with some sort of joint specialist as I have to put forth great effort just to walk at this point.

My knee has been giving me some problems since grade school. I pursued treatment then and nothing really came of it, osgood schlauters disease (OSD) or something like that. So, as I'm very active, I've just limited myself more and more as the pain increases. When I feal pain, I slow down or take a break until the pain subsides.

Went riding friday night. Saturday I felt slight pain in my back knee, pretty normal for the choppy conditions on the slopes. Went riding last night, and this morning it took me 20 minutes just to stand up out of bed. My knee is in so much pain, walking is a real challenge, stairs are near impossible. I wish I still had some crutches around, life would be easier. I'm extremely bummed at the prospects. I didnt go down hard at all last night, a few lost edges, but never hit the snow hard or tweaked the knee. Just ordered a new board, have 3 trips on my new bindings, and switch 180s finally just clicked last night. The rest of the season is looking really fun, I'm really hoping I can finish it off without having to seek some sort of serious attention towards the knee.

Does anyone have experience looking at MRI images? I had XRays yesterday and a pretty extensive MRI done this morning. They gave me the printouts to bring to my orthopedic doctors early this week. Of course, I'm itching to get an idea of whats wrong so I can get a feel for how long I'm out, if my season is over. Google is good, but its not making me into a radiologist. And, I'm hoping that my interpretation is wrong. It blows being on the crutches with 8" of new snow to hobble over. Anybody?

thanks NYC

I spent a while on google looking at examples. I saw what appeared to be a very large cyst in my femur, just above the knee. So, I was prepared for part of what doc had to tell me today...I do indeed have a large cyst, but my meniscus is also torn. Looks like bone graft for the cyst and reconstruction of the meniscus. Just got out of a CAT Scan and I've got a bone scan on tuesday. Things arent looking good for the rest of the season.

fell forward wrong, can't "pop" back my wrist/hand to where there's 100% no discomfort. doesn't hurt w/range of motion, just is a bit annoying w/somethin' being just slightly off. bearable most definitely though.

Sorry to hear that...wishing you the best of luck on recovery. I know it`s frustrating, but hang in there

Thanks for the support guys.

One part of me says, get on the baord and ride till it hurts, while the smart part of me says...you are 22 and dont want to screw things up for later. I was a high level rower and swimmer for years and had to back out of that due to an injury inducing chronic pain w/ overhead motion. I replaced those with snowboarding and lifting. So, I do know about long term joint injuries.

Its driving me stir crazy not to be out there riding. Especially as I have a brand new board sitting in the living room, never been ridden, and had been planning a trip with almost 20 friends for early april.

The doctor says I've likely been feeling this tear for a while and been riding on it. That it just flared up recently. The bone cyst is something I've had for a long time supposedly. Its just getting worse. He also thinks that the tear will not become worse between now and surgery. Any opinions on riding easy on it, and letting pain be my guide? I will be getting surgery for both problems asap, but its looking like summer anyway. And the season is but a few weeks from being over??? I am using a substantial knee brace now and pain is decreased significantly.

Default Back pain

In January we were in Summit for a week of riding, in our second day we went to Keystone and I had a little accident. I hit a jump but cut an edge just before getting air and landed in my neck/upper back. It was very painful at the immediate moment could not move for about 20 minutes. but the pain receded very fast and felt nothing the day after, so I assumed that it was fine.

But 3 week ago we got back Jay Peak, VT, and my back was killing me, I could barely lift 10 pounds, let alone ride the glades with out having to stop because of the pain. The X-rays didn't show any damage in by back or neck, and the doctor believed that I was to young for a disk hernia, so he recommended going to the chiropractor.

After a couple of cessions I feel great, I still have pain but nothing compared to what I had, I thought I was done riding for life among many other things. I guess this is not a medical issue related with riding itself, just sort of an accident that comes with the territory.

We were going to go riding one more time before the season was over but decided to postpone it and let my back heal. The chiropractor said my spine was misaligned and I had a lot of pressure points. At the beginning I was skeptical of chiropractors, but so far I cant complain, he's doing a great job.
