Im curious as to if this has ever happened before? I have been snowboarding for 5 seasons now and would call myself a intermediate rider. Just cruising down a run there was a little set of whoops so I pumped off the first one and jumped off the second. The moment I hit the ground my foot was off the board. Completely off..... Next thing I know some kids are looking down on me like holy shit. Having no idea what just happened I get taken to the bottom on a backboard.

Someone later comes in to report that they saw me flipping head over heels five times and just after I stopped flipping I was still knocked out....


Anyways I would like to blame this on ROME. I know that this was not my fault. I KNOW that I didnt catch my edge (well ya I did but again not my fault my foot wasnt on the board). So after I get out of the hospital with a minor concussion, sprained ankle/wrist and my neck in a brace for the next two weeks I got to see my board. Fours screws are still in the board and holding in a very small piece of baseplate. From what I can tell my base plate completely shattered on impact..

In the end Im SUPER glad to be alive and not dead and will not be buying rome products in the future.

i had a similar expierence like this with my burton freestyles when i was still a begginner, i did a tailblock at the top of the mountain and heard a clicking noise i didnt think it was anything important so i rode into the terrain park. There was a small box so i went towards it pretty fast and did a normal 5050, at the end i tried to pop out of it and next thing i know im laying on the ground, i had no idea what happened i just felt that my left foot was in a akward position. I look at it and it turns out my binding spun almost a 180 degrees. It turns out the clicking noise at the top wast the teeth on the baseplate breaking. Yeah i ended up having to walk down the mountain, got slashed atleast 3 time

I'm sorry that this happened to you and thankfully you're on the road to recovery. However, I can't share your anger towards Rome. You do not remember the impact so there is no way to judge who was at fault here. Baseplates shattering are not specific to any one company. It happens to all types of bindings. Some are manufacturer defects, others are rider impacts/poor care.

I've also heard a lot of stories of this happening as a result of over tightening the screws. There's just too many variables to consider before putting the blame squarely on Rome's shoulders.

With that said, I suggest writing a calm letter/email to Rome with some pictures so they can at the very least get you a replacement on your bindings or a refund of some sort.

By the way, the baseplate failing could have started long before that jump you did.

I just read that you remember your foot being out before impact. Then the latter part of my post makes the most sense. It could have failed from a previous incident like another bad impact or the screw thing.

Yea.... I think I was in a rage when I wrote that this morning.. Just pissed that I have to wait two weeks before I can get to the slopes... Shit happens I guess its not Romes fault. Shit just hurts.

I'm glad you're okay considering how bad it could have been. Same thing happened to me a couple years ago on a set of K2s on a little kicker. Company was real cool and replaced the set for free even though they were out of warranty. Hope you have a similarly good experience. See you up in bear.

Totally understandable bro. Most of us here know what it's like to bail hard. It really does suck that yours was that bad. I know Rome will do you right (that's what she said).

You could always sell your replacement pair for something else
