A 35-year-old man from Boulder was killed today when he rode his snowboard into a tree at Eldora Mountain Resort near Nederland.

His name was not released pending notifification of family, the Boulder County Sheriff's Department said.

The man was snowboarding with four friends in a closed area within the resort's bounds at about 1:30 p.m. when he was reported to hit a tree, the department said in a statement.

The Boulder Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death.

I'm surprised this made the news. Here at Loon some kid died hitting a jump and nothing was heard about it. Then someone had a seizure on a lift and fell off and died but no media attention either.

Well... He did hit a tree. Could have happened anywhere. The trail closure doesn't factor into this one.

I was actually up there with family yesterday. We could see & hear the ambulance from the lift we were on. Another guy I was talking to a guy in the lift line later who said he saw them doing CPR on the guy while getting him down the hill. Pretty crazy.
