Hey, im pretty new to boarding, and new to this forum. i bought a used snowboard around christmas time, and was wondering if it was good or bad. it is a Bataleon, not sure on model. i bought it, with Burton bindings, for $80. there are a few deep scratches in it, but to me, its not bad for a first board. what do you all think?

Bataleons are good board but you got majorly hosed over buying that at 80 dollars. It has scratches all the way down into yout core. Your core will eventually rot out on you. I would talk to the kid and try to get your money back.

i dont know the kid i bought it from. my cousin new i was lookin for a cheap board, and he knew somebody who was selling this. he bought it for me, and i paid him back. i dont know if he was a friend of my cousin, he sees a lot of board for sale, cause he works at a local ski resort. this is just to hold me over, until i decide to buy a new one, and when i can go boarding more. it was either this, or a rental, which around here, they suck.

If you get 3 or 4 rides out of it, you got your money worth at least. It's gouged to the core and looks to be rusting pretty bad so you might want to start looking for another one.

so far i have gotten 3 rides out of it, and my cousin has had 1 or 2. i am probably gonna use it till the end of the season.

I would take it to a shop and have them do the edges, p-tex those gashes, and do a base grind. If the core hasn't gotten wet it will be just fine. For $80 I think you did fine. There are plenty of people who ask way more than that for a board in that same condition. Hell if you get it fixed up for $20-$35 bucks (usual cost in my area for that type of repair with base grind, wax etc.) and it lasts you an entire season you have already gotten more than your moneys worth in rental equipment.

i was thinking about doing that. the only place around here that i know will do that is Perfect North, the ski resort. i think it is $10 for a wax, so im gonna see what everything will cost me.

I'm sure they do more than just wax jobs. They will tell you if those holes should be filled with ptex, ask them if they don't tell you. PTEX. You need that shit if those gashes are core shots because wax alone won't do it. You'd be better off doing a crappy ptex job yourself for the first time than just letting them waxing it and getting water into the core of the board.
