Today was a like a sucker punch in the gut

Basically all the forecasters had been hyping up this "storm" and calling for today to be an epic pow day for the ages. Now sometimes these predictions don't work out, but when everyone is screaming like they were for this one, you can pretty much bet on at least a darn good day. Nope, not this time. SKUNKED! We went from expecting an epic pow day as recently as 36 hours ago to getting downright SKUNKED. Ouch! That hurts!

By the time we hit yesterday evening and there was nothing on the radar returns, I knew we were in trouble. NOAA started really backpedaling on their prediction amounts. I've learned that when the forecasters start backpedaling in CO, it's over. The skunk is coming. I went to bed with low expectations and woke up to check the snow reports expecting something in the 2-4" range. Too optimistic. ZERO! I just rolled over and went back to sleep.

a few days ago the cottonwood canyons resorts here in Utah were forecasted to get something like 50 inches in two days sunday and monday. the forecast was seriously downgraded here as well as the storm started to fall apart but we still ended up with 20-30 inches of the world's finest snow. so I can't complain too much. even though I nearly had a heart attack from just seeing that forecast a few days back.

regardless, pow was bottomless today and it was complemented by beautiful bluebird skies and comfortable temps / no wind. loved it.

sucks you guys missed out. We had a forecast for a major blizzard back in december that never happened. didn't even flurry . not even a dusting. yet they'd forecast 50 inches of snow. It hurt. I know the pain.

Yeah, there's something about that kind of screwed-by-the-universe feeling that makes you want to stand outside, wave your fist to the heavens and scream "You have GOT to be FUCKING KIDDING ME!!!!!"

Seriously!

I mean, I would've been disappointed if we only got a few inches, but I mean hey, it happens. But to get completely skunked when they've been forecasting a great powder day for nearly a week now?

Punch in the gut.

I decided last night against trying to make it out to the mountains today because of this epic storm. FAIL!

OK.. on the third day of our sunshine blizzard we got lucky.. I spent yesterday on peak ten with no liftline, 8 inches of sweetness and nothing but sunshine. I'll take it.
