Kinda sick of people raggin on resorts for closing when they've got to. Yo, its the end of the season, they've got good reasons for closing like leases, insurance and plenty more... i haven't seen it so much on here, but if any of you follow resorts on facebook then i'm sure you've seen it?
Side note: wouldn't it be sick if there were spots with a rope tow or something cheap to run that were open til ALL the snow was gone? One man operation steez ![]() Fuckit, i'm dreaming i know! |

The lease excuse is bullshit. They close because they're no longer making money. That's fine. It's called business. The point of a business is to make money. It makes no sense to stay open while losing money because very few people at this point in the season are buying day passes. You're mainly serving pass holders now and that's not what pays the bills.
The other myriad of excuses the resorts use to close are just that, excuses.

All those excuses are fucking lame. Lease, insurance, elk migration, salmon run off, it's money that's all it comes down to. When I worked for a resort they told me they make all their money for the year from December 18th till January 6th the rest is just money in the bank. If people want to bitch let them bitch maybe it'll prolong the season next year. It's pooping snow right now and Brecks closed.

The people that crack me up are the ones that have gone 10-12 times all season and while it's been puking lately they've been on their mountain bike because it's been 70 down in Denver. Now that most resorts are shutting down, NOW they want to bitch and moan. Shut the fuck up!
As far as hiking, as far as I know it's all good. Most all of them operate on National Forest land. That's all of our land. I know when Loveland shuts down for the season, they usually post a message on their website welcoming people to keep hiking but just to be safe because there will be no patrol out there.

Keep in mind some resorts do photo shoots for teams and such after they close. So there could be areas that it would not be kosher to go hike and ride after they close. Otherwise most resorts on Forest Service land it's fine.
I have no idea what the rules are in Canada, as I notice the OP is from there. Could be a different animal altogether. |

Nobody's getting rich operating a ski hill. Hotel rooms, real estate, bars, restaurants are the cake. Ski operations....just the frosting. I'd hate to see more of the smaller places going under. |
