California ski resorts had an unusual problem this season — too much snow - latimes.com

Mountain resorts saw a 12% decline in skiers and snowboarders this season compared with the previous one, with attendance falling to about 7.1 million, according to California Ski Industry Assn., the nonprofit trade group for the state's major winter sports areas.

The trouble was that near-record snow too often closed roads or discouraged driving to the slopes under harsh conditions — particularly during crucial weekend periods.

I'm not complaining. If you wanted to go, you went. I bet the exorbitant lift ticket prices and gas prices had something to do with it.

Tahoes problem is less bang for the buck like what you get here in CO. You can get a 5 day pass that's good at 5 mountains, 3 of which are on a public bus route so you don't have to drive. The other thing was you guys didn't get snowfall till late in the year long after most people have prebooked their trips.

Yup we were fucked because we went in January which was bone dry the whole fucking month. Still had a great time but still. Tahoe needs an epic pass but I doubt it. There are a few good deals to be had. Funny thing is I think the epic pass includes a couple tahoe resorts as well. So I was thinking of getting the pass even though I'm in San Diego. We're trying to go to Denver again this year as well as a few times in Norcal.

Yeah Epic has Northstar and Heavenly and it might do something at Sierra too but I'm not sure.

Wait... you guys can take a public bus to the mountain over there?! Am I reading that right? Maybe its not as exciting as it sounds but I wish we could do that here

Its a free public bus. you can get to any of about 5 or 6 resorts on the transit systems for free that cover summit and eagle counties. Breck, Vail, Beaver creek, A Basin, keystone.......

Well you can't get to Vail or Beaver Creek from Summit County and Vice Versa. But if you're in Summit County you can ride Breck, Keystone, Copper, and A Basin via public transit and the bus is free. In Eagle county their transit is cash based if I remember correctly. Either way the one reason I live here is the free transit system not having a car but having resort options pays off.
